[Bang on the nose, there. So far, everything people have said to her indicates that it's pretty random, but Hange is a scientist, curious and analytical by nature, so why not see if a pattern can be identified?]

Sadly I have not, but my sample pool hasn't been large so far. Perhaps I'll ask soon. If what I hear about the 'Porter' being governed by a sentient being is true, anyway, crossings back and forth might be governed by whimsy, in which case searching for a pattern will have no returns.

[Greasy brown hair that hangs in her face a bit, bright brown eyes behind coke bottle lenses, a hawkish nose sharp enough to put somebody's eye out, and a buoyant grin is the general impression. Just a bit of mad scientist wafts off of her. She's always eager to learn about somebody new.]

True, very true! This being would be interesting to talk to, if nothing else. Have you also heard about it? About her? A being by the name of Lachesis.

Ah! [Now this sounds interesting.] That must have been before my time. When was this? What happened?

I wasn't involved. A group of imports approached the Porter to speak with it, and the result was two weeks of chaos. The Porter stopped working.

[ He's not certain of the details- he was a little distracted at the time, and a lot more distracted in the aftermath, but the broad strokes of what happened are clearly very fresh in his memory- despite his very recent re-import experience. ]

Many of us were hurt, some of us were killed.
I doubt you will find many imports willing to attempt contact again.

[She leans backwards and seems to nearly flip backwards off her chair before she springs back and hunches close to the screen.]

Did this Lachesis show herself? It sounds as though there was fighting, if people were killed - what did they fight?

No. It wasn't like that. The Porter deactivated. Without it... we began to fall apart. Our existence here is dependent on its power. She punished us by taking back her... gifts. Warping and distorting us, our abilities. Reopening our wounds.

[Sometimes Hange doesn't sit still very well... She picks up the communicator and turns it back and forth, as if moving the machine could shift his image too, and she could get a better look at him that way.]

Interesting, interesting... and disturbing! And for all that offense, she didn't just pack everyone off home again?

No. It seems we are necessary for her purposes, and she believes us suitably subdued by our suffering.

It was a more than adequate demonstration.
