o1 πΌπΌ video;
Bon soir. I am Claudia de Lioncourt.
[Small, blonde, extremely curly. A little more articulate and staid in her manner than your average twelve-year-old girl. She's wearing a flowery T-shirt and a backward, pink baseball cap.]
I am seeking information on how family relationships mature as a child grows up, in this world and time. In my old world, it would hinge on marriage, and childbirth, and separation from the ancestral home. But it seems that times have changed. Or perhaps they never were.
I'm given to understand that ImPorts don't tend to have children or anything, but I'm open to hearing stories gathered from the natives. Or your other cultures. Apparently, there is a saying, 'when in Rome.' And it would seem there are infinite versions of Romes to choose from.

I've got a daughter. She isn't here, though. In my universe it's similar, except these days I guess you expect your kids to go to university instead of get married right off.

I think it's customary for a father to make an effort, actually. Whether it's a dormitory room or her husband's home he's moved her into. I mean, it's my best guess.

Where I'm from leaving home is often tied to a loosely defined courtship ritual, yes, but those who never found love often leave to pursue career opportunities. Or, in my case, I stayed to care for my ailing mother after my father died.
I was her wayward fool of a son until the end, but we needed each other a while longer.
permavideo;
Perhaps that was the transitional moment for you then, [she proposes.] When you found yourself having to provide care for your mother. Perhaps that is when you knew you were a man and not a boy anymore.
If so, I must say, the other alternatives sound considerably more pleasant!

I think it's different for everybody, miss! In my experience, it usually involves the child moving out, getting a job, and making their own way in life.
[ ... which he all did before he turned 10, but he's kind of a weird case. ]

it's tough. it's stupid. she's gonna try something anyway. ]
It depends on the family, of course. The short version is, as you get older, and you learn more about the world, and yourself, the parent is supposed to learn with you. How you change, and how your needs change. Sometimes the things you want for yourself and what your parent want for you won't match, and there's conflict. Arguments are pretty normal during that period.
It's very emotional and very stressful for everybody involved, I think. When you actually become an adult, and when your family actually treats you like one β those periods don't always match.
[ "the short version." how was that short. ]

The answer makes sense to her. Bitterly. Without the side of detailed complications.]
Yes. I know that to be true.
[ahem.]
I've seen it happen to many people.
[An ounce of discretion!]
But you have to make them understand, don't you?

Yes, it's exactly like that. But you're grown up, aren't you?
Video;
Where I'm from it can vary. Some still follow the idea of getting married and having kids...but that's not all that popular anymore. Now it's graduating school, getting into a good university. Being independent.
The older generation doesn't like that too much. They're used to children living with them, bringing in their families as they take care of the aging...

I dunno much about other worlds, but where I grew up, you're adult enough as soon as you can hack it on your own.

I can certainly hack up anything an adult can hack up without any assistance whatsoever. I've yet to meet a knife I can't lift.
[She looks pleased.]
ITS COOL i had a touch of the bronchitis, so likewise!!
