I am seeking information on how family relationships mature as a child grows up, in this world and time. In my old world, it would hinge on marriage, and childbirth, and separation from the ancestral home. But it seems that times have changed. Or perhaps they never were.

I'm given to understand that ImPorts don't tend to have children or anything, but I'm open to hearing stories gathered from the natives. Or your other cultures. Apparently, there is a saying, 'when in Rome.' And it would seem there are infinite versions of Romes to choose from.

I think it's different for everybody, miss! In my experience, it usually involves the child moving out, getting a job, and making their own way in life.

I'm eleven, miss! I just got an early start.

You must be... quite clever. Or something. Do they tell you that you're clever?

They do, and, um, not to get all braggy, but I am! I'm a detective!

[That makes her smile. Then raise her eyebrows.]

I'm not sure I know what that is. Some sort of police officer?

[hellosirs]

Something like that! Detectives are people who solve crimes by examining evidence and clues. I used to work for a couple of different police departments.

I think... I mean, I don't know very much about it, but that's quite impressive. Impressive among a number of other feats that were already impressive. Is that not true?

I don't know many of them on a personal basis, but I think there are a couple of kids around 13-14, and a heck of a lot of teens around here.

And yes, I'm very 'olde-timey.' I come from a time hundreds of years ago, compared to this one.
