I have a question for you all, especially those of you who have been in this place for a while:
What stories do you think are underreported by the media here? What kind of events are you interested in reading more about?

It all depends on where your passions lie, since your readers WILL be able to tell once you've lost steam, and also how much time you're willing to put into your work. None of us are like the Globe's Spotlight; we can't devote a whole year to uncovering the truth behind the Catholic Church, or the seedy underbelly of the fashion industry.
A question like this is fine for feeling out a blog post or a dedicated Bwitter, but you're going to want to read the Majority Reports for an idea of what everyone's talking about.
In this world: Heropa Daily is a great place to see what's being reported (and a quick search will tell you what didn't!), and De Chima also has a fairly solid paper.
This is getting long, so: what kind of journalism do you want to pursue, and what are you interested in reading in? What story do you want to tell?

[ Betty does her research, so does Jughead. And she's not about to expose their complete idea, not when it's still being formed and solidified. ]
We lean towards investigative journalism. Puff pieces are nice, sure but we want to do some research, ask what people would like to know more about.

[ There's zero judgment here on her end; The Boston Globe has a fabulous team, but they also take years to uncover a story and see their sources to the very end. Best to make sure they know they're in it for the long haul. ]
Right now, the Phantom Thieves seem to be popular. Check the bwitter hashtags #countdorku and #takeyourheart. I'm sure there'll be more as news comes out about the Constellation and just how deep their connections ran.

[ She seems defensive :( and Betty isn't sure why. Betty just wants to write and it doesn't have to be about earning a paycheck. ]
But thank you for the tips. I'll definitely look into those.

No problem. :) I mostly cover supervillains for Heropa Daily, and Florida Man. Since that's been a thing for the past eight months.
[ People must love manatees and googly eyes, because she can't imagine all the fuss and love (and she adores her resident Trickster, really). ]

People don't usually take a bunch of teenagers seriously. I want to build up my portfolio so maybe someday I can write for one of the newspapers. [ But at the same time, she likes being able to work for herself, write what she feels is important.]

[ Trust her. Iris tried to ignore the hell out of those invites. That crisp card had promptly headed into the local shredder. ]
I'll also warn you, they tend not to take imPorts seriously. But in my experience, you can usually leverage your fame for better connections.
Start a blog. Create a Bluetube channel where you reveal what you've found. Partner with the schools here, start a interschool news network. You've got a lot to build your portfolio with, and you certainly don't need some big paper unless you've decided this is what you want to do for the rest of your life.

[ Betty is writing all the suggestions down, she is grateful for them. ]
Even unregistered ones? [ Jughead has that perk. ]
We don't want to turn into Serial or something like that but I guess I could reach out and see if anyone who is going to school might want to work on a paper. [ Betty isn't going to school anymore.]

[ Honesty is the best policy, right? ]
Yeah. :( It's because we left our portfolios behind at home, and all we're good for is "increasing business." Getting freelance work (ie: work you may not care much for) is easy. Keeping that relationship is what gets tricky.
Well, elections are coming up. Maybe you and your team could spearhead an election guide on the issues/candidates and livebweet Election Day? Or cover the Swear-Ins, starting next month? I tend to focus on supervillains, and Elena Fisher focuses on native-centric events, so there's a huge niche that's missing.
no subject
Maybe. I'll add those to my list of story ideas.[ AKA, that's not the story she and Jug would probably cover. However, she'll talk to him about it, get his opinion before she makes her final judgment.] Thank you for that suggestion.
What's the huge niche missing? Politics? [ Because that cannot be true. Politics and crime are always the most popular and most widely covered topics. ]
no subject
[ No shade, Bets. She's just trying to get a feel for what captures this girl's heart. ]
Politics as covered by imPorts, yeah.
I've written up articles on the past regarding various candidates and what they believe in, but none of the coverage is by anyone who'll actually be affected by the vote. imPort ambassadors are the liasons between us and the native government, after all, and their policies are for us, by us.
Are you 18 yet? If not, it's even more important that your team gets their voice heard. Go to the town halls, go read each candidate's announcement post or listen to their broadcasts. You'll learn a lot more if you listen.

Nothing intense, just different news from a different source.

That would fill an important void, and you could easily get other imPorts to contribute art or photographs, depending on what you wanted to cover.

I believe it's set up this way on purpose.
