[The scene: it's a bit hard to tell at first, considering the camera is a bit shaky, but it very quickly resolves into a hot dog stand near a beach on Heropa. The vendor, a weathered old man, eyes the comm and the guy holding the comm with some confusion, but sighs and passes over a hot dog sandwich, with no mustard.

Then the camera turns, and there's Han once more, munching on a hot dog in peace.]

So I just got back this morning. [Munch, munch, swallow.] I miss anything while I was out? Besides the Swear-In, anyway, I hear that went off without a hitch. [A pause.] Oh, yeah, for any of you new folks here, the Swear-In's got a habit of going badly sometimes, so next Swear-In might not go too well. Word of advice, bring something along you can use to protect yourself, just in case.

Oh, and if any of you new arrivals know what I'm talking about when I say Jedi or Endor or Yavin IV, lemme know. I'm Han Solo, captain of the Millennium Falcon, I'm with the Rebellion. [Well, that's a change—he's never been so public about his affiliations before.] I've been here a year, I can answer your questions. Even if we're not on the same side—kriff, is the truce still holding?

[A beat. Then he sighs.]

And if you know about Jedi 'cause you've seen a holovid about them in your universe, yes, I'm Han Solo, and I still don't know who this Harrison Ford fella is.

—no, she's not. I tried to call her, she didn't pick up. [And he checked her name in the directory, and she wasn't there. She wasn't there. It's a punch in the gut, that simple thought.] She's—She's doing all right. We were about to head off to Endor, last I saw of her.

It's when two sides in a war agree not to kill each other while they're stuck in a different world with no support from either side coming anytime soon. Now, I know we ain't historically great at keeping to it, but there's a lot more worlds than ours here, so.

[He pauses a moment, and there on his face is his bone-deep annoyance at the fact that he has to specify which one he means. Ugh. This place.]

Are the Swear-Ins prone to fire? [Not sounding concerned, but more like asking which of the expected disasters is most probable.] I'm wondering if it's named for swearing, like, the pledge of allegiance or swearing like "everything is fucked, damn, shit, Pacino."

The truce is still in effect. [And in the interest of trying to honor it, he's in civilian clothes at the moment, no matter how uncomfortable they make him feel.

And in the spirit of that truce, he might as well ask a question.]

I just arrived this month. I've been placed in charge of a group of children at a training camp, but I haven't been able to start duties yet. They said they had to consult a lawyer on whether it will be allowed, because of my age. Have you ever encountered an issue like that on this planet?

Oh, good, I was worried for a minute there.

[No, really, he was. He'd really rather not drag up the war back at home here, not again.]

Nah. I tend to avoid having to talk to a lawyer here, far as I know they ain't exactly the most trustworthy bunch. [And this is a rebel smuggler talking!] Unless we're talking about the age thing, in which case, you don't look that young to me. [He does squint a little, though.]

I'm twelve. [And he looks it, in his opinion. Non-clones tend to disagree.] They said eighteen is the legal minimum, but I might be a special circumstance.

[The Captain said to lie low, but he keeps proving he's not very good with that. At least he got given a name to use, rather than giving out his real designation again. That's something, right?] My name is Taiko. I'm pretty sure we haven't met before.

For two weeks, apparently, but it sure didn't feel like it on my end.

[He coughs a little.]

I don't remember Endor, I remember we were going to Endor. I'm just walking into the shuttle we're gonna use to get past the deflector shield and then [he snaps his fingers,] here I am again.

[Because Han is from a galaxy far, far away. He's eaten weirder. He's liked weirder. The only consolation he has here about missing out on this swear-in is that he didn't miss out on his favorite flavors, which are so exotic they don't even exist here.]

No, we were about to head to Endor. Why're you asking?

Well, she wouldn't get any answers just staring at her screen.]

Yavin IV. What do you know about it and the battle on Scarif?

Hey, Erso, didn't know you were back.

[Oops, it's another one. But when she asks him about the battle of Scarif, something clicks in the back of his head: oh, she doesn't remember. Which is a little bit awkward, but y'know, Han will just roll with it anyway, he's good at that.]

I wasn't there at Scarif. I didn't sign on with the Rebellion 'til Yavin IV, up until then I was just ferrying a farmboy, an old man, and some droids to Alderaan. [He shrugs. They all know how that turned out.] I know some details about Scarif, but not everything.

'S'good to see you too, Padmé. [Despite the use of her first name and his generally casual demeanor, there's a little more respect there now. The Rebellion really has rubbed off on him.]

I'm fine. [He flashes a smile, but there's something a little brittle about it.] You?
