H-hi….! Um, my name is Midoriya Izuku, and I’m very new here. Back home, I was a first year in the hero course at U.A. High School, but I can’t really get any more training here, so--so I was wondering…

[He swallows. Come on, come on, don’t lose your nerve, Midoriya….! Your “Deku” means “you can do it!”, remember?]

Would any of the pro heroes here be interested in taking on an intern? [A brief beat, then:] I-I won’t get in your way, I promise! I just passed my provisional license exam, and everything, it’s just--I know I need more experience before I try to work as a pro myself, so….

[Izuku trails off, sighing. Time to put a fork in this and end its misery. He bows at the screen.]

But yes, that's right. Public displays of your Quirk are illegal unless it's in a professional capacity as a licensed Hero or under direct instructions from a licensed hero.

Well, yeah...using Quirks for combat is illegal otherwise, so you have to get a license first, to prove you're going to be using them responsibly.

There's a course for heroes? And licenses too? [Wow, news to Dustin.] We don't have those where I'm from, [they have demogorgons and psychic children instead] but I've read about superheroes and sidekicks. They don't usually need licenses.

They didn't have licenses when they first appeared. It's just when they became officially recognized by the government that a process was set up so people could verify they were going to use their Quirks responsibly, in order to get permission to do so at will in public.

The obscured face and voice morpher makes him think of All For One, though that's obviously not the case here. Identities aren't much of a big deal in his world; students from U.A. regularly compete on live television before they even pick a codename.

It's not really sudden....I've wanted to be a Hero my entire life. Even if it's not the way I wanted it, and I still want to go home, I can try to do what I can to help these people until I can leave.

[Saving people with a fearless smile...isn't that what he always wanted? He has an opportunity for that now, even if he's not quite so sure if he's ready.]

They deserve to feel safe too, so ... so I'll be their Hero for the time being.
