Hello!!!

[Itsuki is just as prim and proper as he usually is, his hair all combed into place as he wore a neatly-pressed three-piece suit with a bowtie, all in vibrant colors as he was fond of.]

For those of you who do not know me, I am Dr. Itsuki Ozaki, waiter at :Re Cafe, part-time, temporary, not-really physician, and writer for a magazine! I asked for limbs about a month ago, and no one provided me with one, but I did cut off my own arm for science and now I am a little worried, but that isn't what I'm here for!

No, I was wondering...

If any of you are writers? I'm actually kind of more into non-fiction, as in, scientific and medical textbooks, rather than writing horror stories. Does anyone have any tips for beginning... writers? Horror writers? I don't know.

I am thinking perhaps a freeform poem based around alliteration and assonance?

[He grimaces a little at that. He is not confident in his ability to stick to a theme, or even use words properly.]

I wouldn't be worried really, except this is one of my jobs...

I cut off my arm in a show of good faith in order to hopefully get a limb in return but no one gave me one and I'm a little disappointed is all.

[He waves his hands dismissively. Both of them. He got better.]

Did anybody ask for the arm?

Yes. Dr. Zoe Hange asked for it. It's only fair that I be willing to give up one of my own limbs if I'm asking for some, right?

Why did you cut off your arm?

It's too bad the damage from my human form transfers to my natural one, or I'd have given you one of my arms... if it would even stick around after I changed? I don't know. I just know I don't wanna be without an arm again. It was kinda inconvenient. Sorry. Maybe you'll find someone! Maybe if I lose my arm again I'll hit you up.

You can get a different job pretty easily if you don't like your current one.

I'm imagining your arm would have turned back into your robotic form's arm! Not the best for research pertaining to humans, but that's quite alright! I can understand not wanting to part with a limb if you cannot rapidly regrow it.

And it's not that I don't like the job, simply that I am untested! Creative writing was never something that struck me, but I'm sure it's... doable.

Yeah, that's what I suspect as well. Like I said, next time I need field surgery I'll call you.

Really though, someone with magic healing is probably better.]

I mean, I guess I could put a horror twist on it. People did seem somewhat horrified by the request.

See? That's a good idea... but don't make the doctor the scary one. Who knows what little threads humans're gonna grab to make another species look bad.

Can't you study it while its still attached?! It's your own arm! You shouldn't have to study it that thoroughly!

And I'm sorry, but that just makes me much more concerned!

I'd rather not have my arm be dissected, sliced up, or put under a microscope while it is still attached.

And it was for someone else to study, I know my own arm pretty well... I just wanted limbs in order to see if I could make it possible for humans to grow their limbs back, should anything catastrophic happen.

It's unfortunately not one I can share, though!

Oh, okay. That's a relief. I mean, trust me, I understand being devoted to a craft or to science. I've been doing a lot of reading and learning in my free time. But sacrificing an arm seemed like a bit much.

At least now you can say you gave your friend a hand.

[Of course we are. Itsuki should have an opinion on it, but he's not sure he does. The joke doesn't elicit a groan or a chuckle from him, he just continues smiling and pretends he hadn't heard it.]

Well, I certainly wouldn't cut off a limb if I could not regain it. And I'm not asking anyone else to, either! That's just basic survival.

I see. So you were asking those with limbs to spare? Like, if anyone could regrow them like you could?

What exactly are you looking for when you study them?

I want to see if there is some way to replicate the effect in humans without needing to kill them off and replace their brains with a different organism! Because that is the opposite of what I'm aiming for, really.

I was just hoping to see something in the bloodstream or the cells which could be cultivated!

So...like an organ transplant? But instead of an organ, it's more like you want to transplant the ability to regrow lost limbs?

Like if you could take a lizard's ability to regrow its tail and expand upon it and give it to a person?

Right now, I'm mostly focused on arms and legs, but perhaps in the future it can extend to more complex organs, which could theoretically allow the native human population to not fear us so much, as well as help during native disasters!

That's...huh. That really is interesting. It definitely sounds like your heart is in the right place. And I'm sure a lot of people would benefit from being able to regenerate from wounds.

I wish I could help you in your research. Unfortunately, I just heal really fast. I'm pretty sure I can't regrow any lost limbs.

I certainly am still in the market! I'd love a few limbs to work with. Or even just one. You know, as many as I can get without it becoming ridiculous.

Seems that way! Then again, there's hardly ever a quiet month any more... a lot has changed in the past few years.

I can certainly grow you some additional ones. Did you need any specific attributes for them?
