[ Ash has been thinking a lot lately. Sometimes, it feels like all he does is think. But between his conversations with D33 and Chauncy, he feels like maybe he could use more input. And as this request is very personal, he posts under his own username rather than using the anonymous function. ]

Hi Network.
I'm looking for some advice on names.

The name I use, the only one I've ever been given, belongs to someone else. I used to try to be that person, but now I'm trying to be my own person instead.
And so, I've been thinking about using a different name. The only problem is, I'm not sure how to come up with a new one.

Do you have any advice on how to name yourself?

It's hard to explain. It'll be easier to become a new person, for me, if I have a different name to associate with my new protocols.

I was named after family members that my father wanted to remember and honor. I think a lot of names are about carrying on legacies that are important to people. Do you have something like that?

The only thing I have that's close to family are related to the things I'm trying to move away from.

I suppose I could name myself after the friends I've made here, instead?

Definitely! Friends can be as close as or closer than family, after all. So long as it's someone important to you, I think it's the same sentiment.
