EVENING NEWS BULLETIN

"In our first news item this evening, America's ministry of imPort affairs has confirmed that it has suffered a serious data breach, claiming its networks were intercepted by a mysterious hacker.
The ministry has provided little detail on the incident, saying it applied to "the internet-based network where open information and data of the lowest classification level are handled."
Data with higher security classification is still secure, the ministry has said. Intelligence and security services are currently investigating the breach, and invite any citizen or imPort who might have information to come forward. The--"

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program for a message from our sponsor of this particular news segment.
Citizens. ImPorts. The government is not as all-seeing or all-powerful as they would have you believe. Stand up and demand government transparency. Demand answers. Do not be complacent.
They know nothing about the Porter. They do not have control. Its origins lead to the Atlantic Ocean where it was pulled near the coast in 1985. They have no idea how it works. It is a mystery to both the government and their scientists. They have no control over it whatsoever. Any control you might think they have is an illusion. I have seen their files. They know no more than us.
Their main priority is trying to find ways to control the Porter so that way they can send back imPorts who have no interest in this world. Why have we not been told this?
Additionally, it is currently unknown why people suddenly go home. It is not the government's doing. They believe it is the fault of Lachesis. Additionally, it's been confirmed that the Porter has its own automated defenses that prevents anyone from prying too much information out of it-- even those already gifted with extreme powers it brings in from other worlds. Lachesis is
[The message suddenly cuts out, and you return to a confused-looking news anchor, who apologises for the break in programming and hurries on to the next segment, some boring item about a vacuumer cleaner scam.]

[If the government was really trying to keep a lid on that, maybe they should rethink their priorities.

I wonder how you'd even do something like that.

Something's always happening. Call for a break?
[ "Breaking News" can be anything. This happens to keep her attention when she hears the mention of the ministry of import affairs and a data breach. Great. Part of her wonders if that doesn't just drive Houka up a wall somewhere else. ]

So they really don't have a clue. No surprise here. Kinda skeptical about their priorities, though. This country thinks it's at serious risk from the Soviets: are they really not interested in the kinds of power that could help defend the place?

More importantly, if their true goal was to send people home, then it only confirmed the fact that the government really did not have control over the Porter. Which meant it was acting on its own volition, or that the military really did have more control.
OH, THE MYSTERY THAT IS THE PORTER. Roy will simply keep all of this in mind, and writes the main points down in his journal.)

They have sent others back, and not just the kind of wiggly-fingers someone disappears and is unaccounted for trick. It was real run-of-the-mill mortal science. That is, of course, before Lachesis got involved.
Now we're just liabilities in a war.
The details aren't that difficult to work out. I'd try to send us back too, if I were them.

Hey, Altair? We should talk. Can you meet me here at my place?
[Action Option: Desmond can be found slumped in one of the cast iron chairs in the side yard of Residence 004, nursing a beer and lost in thought. Most of what was said in that broadcasting hack isn't what disturbs him. It's the fact that what they said about the Portal that brought them all here sounds a little too close to home for comfort.]

I will be there as soon as I can.
[It didn't take Altaïr long to find Desmond's residence, although it did require Altaïr wasting some time finding a rooftop high enough to get a proper view of the area.
Still, he was there soon enough, meeting Desmond on the yard.]
Did something happen?
