EVENING NEWS BULLETIN

"In our first news item this evening, America's ministry of imPort affairs has confirmed that it has suffered a serious data breach, claiming its networks were intercepted by a mysterious hacker.

The ministry has provided little detail on the incident, saying it applied to "the internet-based network where open information and data of the lowest classification level are handled."

Data with higher security classification is still secure, the ministry has said. Intelligence and security services are currently investigating the breach, and invite any citizen or imPort who might have information to come forward. The--"

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program for a message from our sponsor of this particular news segment.

Citizens. ImPorts. The government is not as all-seeing or all-powerful as they would have you believe. Stand up and demand government transparency. Demand answers. Do not be complacent.

They know nothing about the Porter. They do not have control. Its origins lead to the Atlantic Ocean where it was pulled near the coast in 1985. They have no idea how it works. It is a mystery to both the government and their scientists. They have no control over it whatsoever. Any control you might think they have is an illusion. I have seen their files. They know no more than us.

Their main priority is trying to find ways to control the Porter so that way they can send back imPorts who have no interest in this world. Why have we not been told this?

Additionally, it is currently unknown why people suddenly go home. It is not the government's doing. They believe it is the fault of Lachesis. Additionally, it's been confirmed that the Porter has its own automated defenses that prevents anyone from prying too much information out of it-- even those already gifted with extreme powers it brings in from other worlds. Lachesis is

[The message suddenly cuts out, and you return to a confused-looking news anchor, who apologises for the break in programming and hurries on to the next segment, some boring item about a vacuumer cleaner scam.]

Lachesis is giving us powers.

And I'm quite certain that they're doing their best to shut it off. Somehow, I don't think that they can.
gluestick: (is the only friend that i have)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-01 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
And the government's the one giving us the folders that tell us about those powers. [Suspicious in his book.]

You've got a lot of faith in this place, haven't you?
selfimage: — ɢᴀʀʙᴇᴛᴛ — (Sunday.)

[personal profile] selfimage 2014-10-01 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
The Porter is the one that gives the information.

[ he sounds kind of bored. ]

No, not necessarily—I look into the information available to us.

[He doesn't look like he believes that at all, but he doesn't argue it further. He doesn't see a difference between the government and the porter, because they sure as hell seem like they go hand in hand.]

Then where should I be looking? Because I haven't had much luck in finding anything worth believin' in this shuck place. Does it require being registered with them?

Sure, that sounds like a fine place to start.

Truly.

[ he sounds pretty dry. ]

I could simply link you to the back button on the network. There's oodles of infos.

[ but he sighs, relenting. ]

But fine, what holds your fancy?
gluestick: (i won't let go til it bleeds)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-03 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
[He'd apologize for being difficult, but he's not all that sorry about it.]

I'm just lookin' for proof that we can believe what they're telling us here. I've got a whole lot of experience with people lying to me and running me through trials to see how my buggin' brain works. I'm still not entirely convinced that isn't what's goin' on here too, and forgive me if I'm not jumping to take strangers at face value.
selfimage: — ᴍᴄᴋᴇʟᴠɪᴇ — (The laughing gnome.)

[personal profile] selfimage 2014-10-09 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
And what sort of tangible proof would be convincing enough for you?
gluestick: (is the only voice coming back)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-09 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that... I'm not too sure of. [At least he's honest.] Last time I took somethin' at face value, I ended almost starving to death for it.
selfimage: — ɢᴀʀʙᴇᴛᴛ — (Glass spiders.)

[personal profile] selfimage 2014-10-09 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
So, instead, you'll take the least likely explanation as believable? Circumstance does play a part, and there are bigger fish, it seems.
gluestick: (i can hear the drumming)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-10 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Coming where I'm from, the least believable explanation is sometimes the one that's actually true. I wanna hear all sides before I go believing anything that isn't my gut, and I've got doubts about even tht.
selfimage: — ɢᴀʀʙᴇᴛᴛ — (Music is lethal.)

[personal profile] selfimage 2014-10-10 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes.

Still at the mercy of your own perception. I suppose it's going to be less of hearing all sides and more of thrown to the omniversal wolves. This government is in quite the tight position.
gluestick: (and try to chase the crazy)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-11 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, my perception or somebody else's, but that's just how it goes, yeah? Care to explain more about it? Sounds like you've been around a while to know.
selfimage: — ɢᴀʀʙᴇᴛᴛ — (Here comes the night.)

[personal profile] selfimage 2014-10-11 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Which part? I'll be appropriately hyperbolic.
gluestick: (you could come and save me)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-13 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
How's the government in a tight position?

[personal profile] selfimage 2014-10-13 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
This isn't the first evidence of the above transmission. No one within their right mind would bring those such as Lucifer to this world only to wreak havoc not only within the borders during specific wartime efforts. I'd say that we're both a liability as much as we are a commodity.

We need to go somewhere, and with tensions all over the globe—specifically between this country and its ushanka wearing rivals across the sea—one can't allow the other to gain the upper-hand by weaponizing us. Yet we're still variables, aren't we? Unfortunately for them, we're not so easily controlled.

So, the best thing to do is make is celebrities. Has anyone started a TMZ for imPorts yet?
gluestick: (and get to see your face again)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-14 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Variables. He's starting to really hate that word.]

Yet they're still somehow keepin' us here, funny that.

What's TMZ? And who in bloody hell is Lucifer? [The only image that comes to mind is a little red demon, but he somehow doubts that is the answer.]
selfimage: — ᴍᴄᴋᴇʟᴠɪᴇ — (Where have all the good times gone?)

[personal profile] selfimage 2014-10-14 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ there's a long-suffering sigh. ]

They're not keeping us here—the Porter is. If you look back far enough into the not-so-distant past, you'll find that the Porter itself got conveniently hijacked by a very foreboding program of doom—and I use the term loosely—appropriately named Lachesis. Before that, the first round of imPorts went home just fine.

Now, Lucifer is a crazy megalomaniac that tried to force himself out of the omniversal barriers by means of human sacrifice. He killed dozens of civilians before his plan immediately back-fired and he was brought to mortal justice. Causing a stir inside and out.

TMZ will wait for later.

Got all of that?
gluestick: (climbing up the walls)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-15 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, got it.

But the Porter was still bringing imPorts in before Lachesis? Why? Who was controlling it then, the government? And if that's the bloody case, then they were still taking us without our consent. Now they've just got a program to blame it on. What makes you trust what they're saying is true, though? I'm genuinely trying to understand.
selfimage: — ɢᴀʀʙᴇᴛᴛ — (Future legend.)

[personal profile] selfimage 2014-10-15 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Most likely, but as an omniversal traveler, usually means of transportation remain open. And here? Well, there's the unfortunate unbreakable barrier in place that lets nothing in except what the Porter fancies.

Think of it this way--no one would bring Lucifer here if they could help it. And no one would keep him as he went on a murderous rampage across the country if it was in their ability to let him go.

[ the same went for him. for Loki. ]

If you have the ability to cherry pick, why keep the whole basket?
gluestick: (shoot it down)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-18 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
See, you say that, but we had scientists throwing half-mechanical monsters at us on a daily basis just to see how we'd react to it. Called 'em variables, all about a big experiment based on our reactions to danger and being locked in a maze without a solution. So it's hard to believe that this place couldn't possibly willingly do the same to us.

Do you see why I have trouble believing any of that?
selfimage: — ᴘɪᴄʜᴇʟʟɪ — (Little wonder.)

[personal profile] selfimage 2014-10-18 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Omniversal is omniversal—and here you are still drawing from your own experience.

It's the words of the Porter, herself.

But I can't entirely say what would be substantial for you. If you wish to stage your own hollow, drowning revolution, you may find this a point to start.
gluestick: (alone alone)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-19 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's all I've got to draw from. Isn't that the whole point of experiences, to use them?

The Porter who is screwing with us, bringin' us here and not letting us leave, and we're supposed to listen to it? That just sounds stupid to me.

[Sighing.] I haven't decided what I'll do yet, I just want information for now, whether I believe it or not.
selfimage: — ɢᴀʀʙᴇᴛᴛ — (Music is lethal.)

[personal profile] selfimage 2014-10-19 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe not so basically.

I would be lying if I told you that I believed the government had our best interest at heart—or that the Porter wasn't planning something oh-so-terrible on an omniversal level ... However! The devil is in the detail, to use the idiom unexpectedly, and those details may play a key role in our sudden-yet-inevitable revolution.
