16. Thank You For Bean A Friend

my parents ran a restaurant back home, my siblings and I helped, and we all lived in an apartment on top of it

i'm so used to noise and company and people always being around. Whether it's people talking, the sound of the grill or the refrigerator, the noise of the tv, my parents snoring at night, my brother playing music, whatever

point being it sometimes feels so empty and quiet with just me and mom at our new place plus after everything that's happened lately I'd like some company

so i'm hosting a Friendsgiving kind of thing?? today where you're welcome to stop in Casa Belcher, Heropa #006 and have some company and a hot meal.

i'm going to have a burger station in case anyone really does want to try that hideous raisin burger, and some thanksgiving-type food, and dessert

I'm used to a lot of noise too, and having my siblings around everywhere.

Friendsgiving isn't a bad idea to kind of kill that quiet.

Yeah, I thought I'd be glad for the quiet, but... when you're used to something, it going away just feels wrong.

I wasn't familiar with the idea, but this year I ended up spending the actual Thanksgiving day on the couch in my sweatpants and ate a TV dinner, and I didn't feel right not doing SOMETHING to celebrate.

Exactly. You just get so used to the noise and chaos, you know?

...To be honest, we never really celebrated Thanksgiving much, so a day lounging in sweats sounds amazing but...I can understand feeling out of sorts by not doing something.

It was like the soundtrack to my life.

Thanksgiving is my dad's favorite holiday. I thought I'd be OK not doing something because it can be a lot of work, but... it reminds me of home, too. He'd go all out picking the right turkey and coming up with a good recipe and everything.

Amen to that. It's still weird to get up without Kayla singing her way through a morning routine--or Austin making a general racket.


...Oh. Yeah, I can see why it'd definitely make things feel off for you. Even if it's a few days late, a Friendsgiving is a good way to keep to a tradition like that.

I at least have the singing- my mom loves to make up songs, and she's been here for a while. I'm lucky to have that.

I think Dad would have liked the idea, if we could have had a bunch of people over. We've invited friends over for Thanksgiving dinner before, when they didn't have anybody else to spend the day with.

My mom kind of did that thing too, but I think that's more about music being her career than just loving to make up songs.


Your family really sounds kind of great. You're lucky to have 'em behind you.

Mom was in a band in high school, but other than that, she just likes music and theater. It's nice.

They are pretty amazing. I'm glad Mom is here, but I miss my dad and my siblings every day.

If I can persuade the stable to let me take him for a few hours. He's still getting used to being around different people, but he has to as part of his training.

I'm sure he'd love it, too. If he's around me, he's calm. ... usually. Unless he decides to plant his hooves and not move, then it's like trying to push a statue along.

True. I think I forget that because I have yet to have my own teenage rebellion. Whenever I do have anything like that I feel bad about it afterwards.

Yeah, it was a lot like that for me, too. Not that I never did anything my parents didn't want me too, but they were annoyingly understanding most of the time.

Uh-huh. Mom and Dad are always so supportive of me, I don't have any real reason to be a jerk to them. Plus, being the oldest sibling, I feel like I have to behave and set a good example for my brother and sister.

Cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoes in this case.

I saw this thing on Bwitter that suggested reheating leftover stuffing in a waffle iron. I thought about putting turkey between two pieces of that to make a sandwich.

It'd be better with cranberry sauce so it's not dry.

Well, I'll admit it's full of useless stuff, but sometimes there are gems. Like that one.
