001: Video

[The face on the screen is of a pretty, dark-haired woman in her mid-twenties. But there's something serious to her eyes, a way she seems to be taking in every detail and filing it away for future use.]

I'm not going to ask any of the "who, what, where" kind of questions. Given the briefing and the fact that this place has apparently been doing this for a while, it'd probably be kind of pointless.

But I'm Helena. Helena Wayne.

And I've got to say... the super-powers thing is the most unexpected part of all of this. Never had much need of them before, though I can't say I wasn't jealous of Karen sometimes.. Still... definitely unexpected. Anybody else dealing with first time powers?

I've been here long enough to get used to them... well, except the new power I just got... but I never had powers back home, either. It's kinda nice.

[There were kids here? Now that, that did surprise her. Who'd recruit children for this insanity?]

About a year and a half, I think. It feels like it hasn't been that long, but it has been.

That long...? That's got to be rough.

My mom's here, too, and I've made plenty of good friends and some of them feel like a family to me, so it's not bad all the time, at least. I do miss my dad and my siblings every day, though.

[There's a slightly sigh of relief. At least Tina's not here completely on her own.]

I'm glad you've got family here. From the sounds of it, I've got a few people here who share the same last name, even if I've never met them before.

Me, too. I'd be a lot worse off without Mom, I think. ... not a delinquent, but not as well-adjusted, either.

Are they family? Or is it one of those weird coincidences?

Still figuring that one out... But I've got an an adopted brother back home, so I'm used to family from near and far.

[continuousgroaning]

Well, if they are family, I hope you all can get along. And if not, it's pretty easy to avoid people you don't want to run in to. ... as mean as that sounds.
