I have taken it upon myself to pursue creating community gardens for the cities connected by the Porter, given that my initial assignment was a crude joke. [ Oops, she didn't mean to add that bit, but Circe's done enough takes of this post already that she stubbornly pushes forward with it. She manages not to seem flustered. ]

But as I am unfamiliar with these climates, I wanted to ask a question.

What types of plants would be most beneficial to residents? As long as I am tending them, not all need be plants that are suited to that environment.

If you're still looking for suggestions, edible trees are always a good bet. Lots of benefits.

... Ones that bear edible food, I mean. There's a lot of fruit and nut species on this planet.

I had not thought of that, but it is a good suggestion. They require less tending than plants.

Are there any in particular you have enjoyed thus far? [ Circe knows one narrow biome: the Mediterranean. The plethora of plants and trees she is getting to discover is one of her favorite things about being here, but it can be overwhelming at the same time. Some direction would be nice. ]

Mine haven't actually started fruiting, but - cherries are pretty great. Peaches are amazing. Apples are way better than anyone gives them credit for.

I was pretty disappointed to learn that bananas weren't really an option, here. I'm used to planets with more stable ecosystems.

I don't think I've yet had a banana, but fruit seems a good place to start. I could entice them to grow... but it would not be sustainable without me there. [ And they also don't make good spell ingredients when Circe's already worked some witchcraft on them. ]

Aloe is always useful. A handful of things like Rosemary, Lavender, Sage...

It's probably a matter of time before someone replies to this saying 'cannabis', so I'll get that one over with.

I'd advise avoiding De Chima. Apparently earlier last year, many citizens were turned into plants there, and I'd hesitate to bring up a community garden there, at the very least.

Were they turned back? What was the cause? [ Dryads turn themselves into trees from grief, but it's less common for mortals unless they are the subject of vengeance from some god. ]

I understand the literal words, [ because they got translated, ] but you might explain a little further what a 'scientific experiment' is.

What city would you want to grow them in?

Some, it seems, were less insulting than others. [ Her dry tone fades into faint warmth as she discusses gardening. ] Herbs are a certainty. They are both hardy and useful. Peaches are ambitious, but not impossible.

Any that would have me, I suppose. I haven't undertaken the formality of asking permission yet.

Hm... that doesn't really limit the scope of where you'd be. My vote is on "not Jeopardy."

Teach you? [ He's not the first person to make a suggestion that Circe teach them something, and really, she has no idea how anyone thinks she is a suitable teacher. No one had ever taught her anything. But her voice is measured, curious. ] Do you have some capability with plants you have not explored?

I was initially given housing there, and I cannot say I was sad to leave it. Deserts are a depressing place for one born of the sea. [ She means this literally, of course. ]

There was a project for a local community park. You may wish to reach out to Princess Allura and Darin. I assisted in obtaining the zoning permits for them in Nonah.

If you haven't already, you may wish to reach out to Haru Okumura. She's quite the gardener herself and may wish to assist. We are currently located in Heropa and it could be beneficial to have different types of gardens to go along side the climates of each.

[ Circe doesn't find anything unusual in someone being titled princess. ] Is that so? A park is... a protected stretch of land set aside for public use. I see. [ Sometimes needing everything translated, not just between languages but between eras, makes communication slower. ] Does it include a garden already? I would like to see what others have done.

It would not be unpleasant to coordinate upkeep if she was amenable. [ Circe frankly gardens to have some solace, but here she can see it functioning in a different role, that of giving her some alone time. What a concept. Alone time, as if she should need to seek it out. ]

It is, however I cannot imagine it not having a garden already. I only obtained the permits, and I was not much involved in the rest of the planning, unfortunately.

I doubt she would object. Gardening is a passion of hers and she's already started a garden near our home.

[ Circe's tone warms with a measure of amusement. ] I seem to have acquired more than one myself. I did not intend to, but it is easy to be greedy with so many new plants to learn of.

I turn horrible men into pigs as a humiliation -- I do not eat them. [ Not that she'd meant to admit it was to humiliate them... But come on, she has standards. ]

Edible plants would definitely be a good idea. You could go with fruits or vegetables that stay fresh a long time, like apples and onions and potatoes, and then donate a portion to food pantries? Watermelons are good, too.

[He hmmms like he's deep in thought about this, which he is--Izuku's a nerd and a natural babbler at the best of times, and the Zone of TMI probably isn't helping.]

Maybe some plants with medicinal properties too...though I don't know as much about that. I could do some research and get back to you?

A good and kind thought. Vegetables that keep well also tend to be hardy, and easier to grow.

If you wished to, I would not say no. I am familiar with the medicinal plants around the Mediterranean Sea, but not here; and enough time has passed for me that they may not be in the same form even if I did know them.
