Greeting you today is a man with a bright smile and an even brighter shirt — aqua, with a tie that seems to match only in theory — and a look in his eye that twinkles with confidence and certainty. Yes, here is a man who is not at all questioning this place and its motives; here is a man who is totally okay with the situation in which he's found himself; here is a man who is a very good, very convincing faker.]

Greetings and salutations, fellow ImPorts! Allow me to introduce myself: Saul Goodman, attorney at law and soon-to-be judge. I want you all to be able to think of me as a resource — as someone whose purpose here is to assist where and when I can, at least as far as legal issues are concerned. For consultation purposes only, though; I won't... uh, really have the time to open my own practice here, unfortunately.

[And that does seem like something that upsets him, but he allows that emotion in for all of two seconds before dismissing it and focusing back on sounding genuine and honest. Which he is, to some degree. It's just... kind of rare, is all. But this is what happens when you don't want to upset your kidnappers: You do what you think you have to.]

Anyway, I'm gonna have to spend some time catching up on what's actually going on in this place, legally and politically speaking. There are other lawyers and legal professional-types around, right? We should chat. Oh, and for all you daytime TV-watchers —

I'm not sure. [ but now she is curious? ] Probably something similar at the very least. I could just visit the community college and investigate but. [ she shrugs. she has issues with college things because her dad ruined it for her. investigating could be a baby step, except... she isn't going to college. so she abruptly changes the subject. ]

What kind of lawyer are you?

["But." He wants to prod, but he can take a hint. Roll with the topic change, Saul.]

Criminal defense attorney.

You defend the bad guys? [ iiiiiinteresting. if inly because abigail knows so many. not all of them actually bad. or guys. what if she just absorbed saul into the collective because the baltimore people will probably need him one day? hmm. ]

Does that make it ironic that your last name is Goodman?

Everyone wants to jump to that conclusion.

[Saul leans back a little, straightening his tie.]

It is ironic, but the thing is: I don't see it as defending the "bad" guys. People are accused of crimes all the time, whether they committed them or not. Innocent until proven guilty, you know?

But some of them are guilty. You do defend guilty people, even if the majority of them could be innocent. [ which she doesn't seem to say like it's a particularly bad thing in and of itself, she's fairly certain that's how the law works. the prosecution is just meant to be better at proving their case. ]

Well, yeah. Everyone deserves a chance.

[It's kind of gross, how sincere he sounds when he says that.

Especially considering how he usually just looks at his clients and sees walking, tweaking dollar signs.]

[ ahahahhahahahaha that is more before her time than judge judy -- she was a whole barely a year old gosh! -- but she meant to say "murderers" and thought better of it at the last second and oj simpson was the only big name trial she could think of that didn't involve...

Of course I do. But if I let that dictate how I do my job, I'd be a prosecutor, not a defense attorney.

[ internal struggle. ] I'm used to the FBI. They have sort of a black and white view of things.

Yeah. Which is a shame, seeing as how the world doesn't actually work that way.
