[ If he looks a little nervous, it's because he is. Caleb, like, lives on Instagram, but this is different. This is talking to people and he's never been terribly good at it. That comes from lack of practice, surely, but all the same. At least this isn't in person, so he won't get lost in a sea of emotions. ]
Uh...hi. Hi. I'm...Caleb. They said I have to go to school, but uh...I just finished school back home? I mean, I was waiting for the graduation ceremony in a couple of weeks, but I'm done with school, so do I really have to go repeat my senior year just because I'm still seventeen?
[ He'd really rather work full time if he has to work, even if he's just flipping burgers. What's the point of working part-time and taking his senior year over again? That's fucking stupid. ]
What do I have to do to, like... [ he huffs an awkward laugh, running a hand through his hair. ] you know, not do that?

I have one? That's also not what I fucking asked. But cool, thanks, bro.
[ Insert insolent teenage eye roll here. ]

[He's missing Caleb's point.]
No one can force you to do anything. Plenty of kids drop out anyway, don't they?
Not that I recommend it.
Are you being, like, intentionally obtuse or what, dude? Jesus Christ...
I don't want to repeat my senior year of high school. I already graduated back home, we just didn't get our diplomas because we haven't had the ceremony. I just want to work full-time and not get turned in for truancy, holy shit, man.

Anyway. They can't force you to go, and there are probably programs that would let you get the proof you know your stuff. Though, you may have to take a test, and you're very possibly going to fail the history section if your world is different enough.

[ He will, he just doesn't know it yet, since he's never had a job. He's never had time for a job. ]
I mean...should I be worried about this apocalypse stuff, though? Like...maybe the job is the least of my problems sort of worried, or...?

They won’t care. Anyway, you’re not gonna fuck your GPA up the ass back home while you’re stuck here.

[ He laughs and rolls his eyes. ]
My GPA was never anything spectacular anyway. I don't suck, but I'm not great, either.

I believe you can a formal emancipation, which, in the circumstances, should not be too hard. That frees you up from any responsibility to do more. Then you can drop out, or get a GED, as you like.
Any Lawyer, really, should be able to help you.
no subject
Don't lawyers charge for their services, though? I just got here, man, I don't have money for that...
no subject
Some do, but several Import lawyers here help those of us who need the help. I've heard tell of one, Wanda Maximoff, who helps those in need, often.
[ He thinks, and nods. And he will forward some money her way to help with that, now that he is thinking on it. ]
It is possible, though, that you could ask the government about it, and get some help with that.

[ Okay, that's more than a few months, apparently, since it's November here and don't even get him started about how, according to this calendar, he should be turning 20, not 18. ]

[ Richie seems to be, but you never know, right? He'd feel shitty if he didn't ask and then found out later that the kid wasn't okay. ]
That's what I keep hearing, so that's good at least. I don't care about the whole skipping school thing, so long as nobody's going to get on my fucking case about it.
[ Cool, Caleb, keep swearing when you're talking to a child, real cool. ]

The Porter doesn't care who it brings in. You don't have to worry about me. I can take care of myself.
[ He looks to be about ten, but he carries himself with the confidence of a full grown man. ]
No one will chase you down and make you do anything. If you don't like the job the government gave you, you can just find something else.

Yeah? Uh, like...what's the longest anybody's been here? And where can I do that? Take the GED test, I mean?
no subject
[ Jaime points at himself. ]
You're looking right at him. Usually, the GED is on a schedule - it'll be you and a bunch of other people. Like, once a semester or something? You can sign up online.
