My name is Jean and after reading through your posts here, I thought it might be a good idea to utilize this space to introduce myself and put feelers out for those who might know -- or know of -- me. Establish where our paths might have crossed, if at all, and maybe learn about your experiences here.

[ Her tone softens and warms significantly, less formal and introductory now: ]

I'd be interesting in learning about your experiences here even if we don't know each other, actually. Don't be shy.

[ A moment after posting this to the network, Jean broadcasts a telepathic message to those whose brain patterns and engrams are distinctly mutant asking those who might receive the message to get in touch. (No telling how far that message reaches, just given there are mutants from different universes and whatnot - feel free to do with this what you will!) ]

[ Sure, but she wasn't expecting that. ]

Last year, around when I arrived, there was a teen girl here named Jean Grey. She could move things with her mind. I didn't know her very well, but we talked a few times.

She got ported out, I'm not sure when, then back this summer, an adult woman calling herself Jean Grey showed up. She seemed to be the same person as the girl I met before. Then she left. Now you're here.

I... don't have any memories of this place, so I couldn't say for certain whether we're the same Jean Grey, but that's useful information. I can already tell I'm going to have a few of these.

Were you close at all?

Only close enough to know her name,what she could do. The younger Jean and I worked together once to round up some loose insectoid robots.

Well, then. Sounds like an opportunity to start fresh with proper introductions. [ A smile. ] Jean Grey, although you already know who I am. I can see your network ID, too, but what about you?

What about me? Besides the fact that you should ignore the first half of my Net ID and call me Bean, what do you want to know?

Your preferred name is a start. You said you've been here for about a year, yes? What other strange things have you seen in your time here, Bean?

Oh, the usual. The walls between realities breaking little by little, culminating in a near-apocalypse event.

But that's all settled now. Should be only the usual crazy stuff from here on.

You seem to be taking it in stride; is this sort of thing normal for you? Is this world similar to your world back home?

[justlittle]

Not at all. The worst my world had to deal with was an alien invasion from another planet. All this multiverse business is stuff I've had to get used to since I got here.

[atombomb]

We've had our share of alien invasions, too. The multiverse stuff is probably more common back home than the alien invasions, but I think we could both be a lot worse off. I can't imagine what this place must be like for people from worlds without any magic or superpowers or alien invasions.

You're younger than I'd expect to find in a place like this, though. At least as far as traveling alone. Are there other imPorts around your age?

I've done plenty of traveling alone. [ Ugh, don't be a concerned adult over him. ] And I'm older than I was when I first arrived. The first time, I was about seven. Now I'm about... ten and a half.

[ He can only approximate, not knowing his exact birthday. ]

I'm the youngest. There are a few other kids, but they're all older than me.

[atombomb]

[ Look, kid. She can't exactly help it. Jean's got that Big Mom Energy and she's used to playing the Concerned Adult where kids are involved, it's just what she does.

It's more than that, though. It's more than him. She's trying to figure out how this place works and why it chooses the people it chooses -- whether it's random or if there is some kind of method to this madness. ]

This place certainly doesn't discriminate. At least they've provided us all with a place to live, not just throwing you to the wolves, so to speak. Did you come with people from home? Friends?

[ Bean shakes his head no. ] I'm the only one here from my world. Or, at least, from my time in my world. It's hard to tell when the event that defines your reality won't take place for another hundred years.
