The Orokin did it. They were selfish and greedy and didn't think about what they did to the system. Always trying to improve the beauty of things, of themselves, they ruined it all instead.

The technology. Sure, I learned about the 2010s in history class, but actually looking up and not seeing any shuttles or spaceships was weirder than just reading about it. But on the other hand, paper books are everywhere and just taken for granted.
