Because I just found there are bwitter accounts dedicated to trying to prove I'm not actually dating my girlfriend? I thought it was a joke but they're in like, a flame war with someone whose really into it... Like, I know I shouldn't be reading it, but I just can't look away.

Weird is a charitable descriptor. Such public spectacle might lead to your girlfriend being in danger. There's a reason royals back home in Asia have guards - public adoration can lead to some less than stable people behaving badly. But I suppose that, if your lady is an imPort, she can fend for herself.
