[ It's the morning of May 16th and this is the first time Rachel's reached out to the network since her arrival. Not knowing who this video will reach makes her feel a little uneasy, especially with what it's regarding. But she's beginning to familiarize herself with the realities of this place and she understands that sometimes changes need to be made.

She's sitting up straight with good posture. Her hair is pulled back in a neat low ponytail and her expression is soft. ]

Hello. My name is Rachel Dawes. I had arrived recently and learned some things through the people I've met. [ A smile forms - it's small and honest. ] Detective Loki, if this reaches you: thank you.

[ That same smile fades. This, to her, is business, after all. ]

When I was pulled here from my world [ will she ever get used to saying such things? ], I was an assistant district attorney - though, unfortunate circumstances had me appointed acting D.A. before coming here. [ Okay, Rach. They don't need a full resume. She shifts in her seat. ]

I'm searching for some information on how one might go about setting up their own practice? I've been assigned the job as a conflict mediator, but I'd really like to make more of an impact, if possible.

[ She'd work towards making it possible, truth be told. ]

[ She shrugs. ] Still overwhelmed, but it takes time. What are you up to today?

Nothing in particular. Walking the streets. Keeping people safe.

[It's been something of a routine for him since he's been here, to do regular patrols and deal with any disputes or petty crime he notices. There haven't been many major cases to solve.]

[ And boy does she mean it. Good people are good, but good people who do good are especially valuable to her. ]

I haven't attempted this here, but I figure you'd take the same steps you'd take to start a business in your own world.

[Please don't mind the fact that the man giving this advice looks like he stepped out of a goth nightclub.]

Gather some resources, save up some cash from your current job, get a license from the city and pick a building. That's the basics, right?

It's good to know that the process is the same. At least there's some familiarity there, right?

[ She smiles a friendly smile. It wouldn't be truthful to say she wasn't at least slightly shaken by his appearance, but Gotham City has taught her to be wary of the peculiar. It isn't something she's proud of, but it isn't something she'd go by either. Initial instincts is all it is, really. ]

How long have you been here, if you don't mind my asking?

I mean, I'm from Japan, so there's still some cultural differences.

[Also there aren't any ghouls here. That's a big difference too. She should see him on a bad day.]

I've only been here about a month. Don't count on me to be an expert on anything.

It's not hard here. The government has a lot set up to help us get businesses started, and to show and prove our credentials. Once that is done, its a matter of saving money or getting backers, which is not too hard here, and then using that to set up, just like you would anywhere else.

[ He nods, sitting in an office, with a banner behind him proclaiming H.O.P.E. (the words 'Heropa Organization for imPort Education' is scrawled out in smaller letters on it.) ]

And if, by chance, you are interesting in making a difference here, well... I know a few people who definitely you could talk to.

[ Rachel leans in and props her chin over her fist, and attentively so. She noticed the banner nearly right away and keeps it at the back of her mind. It intrigues her - and maybe she can learn more about it through the questions that now spiral through her thoughts. ]

That's very helpful, thank you. [ She nods. ]

Making a difference is something I can say I'm very interested in. I'm something of a go-getter. [ She smiles warmly as she straightening her posture. ] I'd absolutely love to have the opportunity to connect with those people.

I work for an organization called HOPE, a[ and he waves at the banner behind him as he goes on, ] It is primarily a school and an outreach program to help imPorts settle here, an deal with the differences that might exist between this world and their own. We offer schooling of basics, as well as help people to figure out how to use their powers.

[ He nods, eyes intent, voice soft but sure. ]

We're still small, but we are growing, as we gather more people. I'm a teacher here, but I would be glad to show you around and introduce you to some of the others, sometime, if you are interested.

I understand that wish to do something more -- I was a paralegal at home. I'm afraid I don't know how to set up a practice here but there are several organisations that would likely appreciate your skills.

[ She brightens a bit at that. Rachel of course hadn't thought she was the only person with experience in the legal field, but there's something nice about actually meeting another. Have a warm smile, Mrs. S. ]

I'd love to know more about them, if you don't mind.

Well, one of them I believe you already did. I work with Mr Dresden at HOPE.

[ Wanda's voice is a southeastern European sounding one, friendly as she offers a small smile. ] I wasn't a lawyer in my original universe, but I did get a legal degree here and now I work in law. Thankfully, they make it fairly easy to get set up in similar - or different - career paths for us here. I've been here for over four years, so... I can probably answer any specific questions you have.

Great news. Did it take you long to earn your degree? [ She shifts in her seat, still smiling. ] Sorry, Wanda, but I may have a ton of questions coming up for you.

A few months; not the three years that I'm used to knowing it takes. ImPorts can do some things faster here. And no need to apologize for questions, because again I've been here for over four years, so I have a lot of answers. Not all of them, or even enough, but a lot.

I was told if you are registered, they will believe your academics, even if you don't have a way of proving them. I'd say once that is done, you could open your own practice the way you'd do it back in your world, assuming this world is at least a bit similar to yours.

And here I was worried I was going to have to re-take the bar exam.

[ And she smiles. ] I've had an overwhelming number of responses [ which totally warms her heart ] - thank you for that. Really.

Some people have been here for a while, so they are always willing to share information.

The most important thing you gotta figure out first is making sure that you can pass the bar here. You might want to start off by working for someone else while you get all the paperwork done. You did it once, so you can do it again, but the laws here can be different -- especially if you plan on working in imPort law, which has, um, some different rules in place for all the weird that happens around here.

You seem to know a lot. [ She tilts her head with the implication of wanting to know more. But she doesn't want to push yet! ]

I'm not a laywer or anything. I'd be pretty bad at it, [ he confesses with a brief laugh. ] But I've been here for years. That means I know how the system works and all the little things that get overlooked when people are just trying to figure out how to, like, start over again. If this was all in welcome brochures, people would get real overwhelmed, real fast.
