[ Science has already let him down. Science led him here. Luther doesn't much savour the idea of another brilliant person with brilliant inventions trying to get beneath his ape-like skin, when he and his father already tried and failed.

There is something to be said for acceptance, and coming to terms with yourself and your new capabilities or lack thereof. Luther isn't there yet. And he has too many memories now, of an entire decade in the City without this albatross around his neck, this anchor around his ankle. Every time he thinks he might have readjusted to his malformed body again, this world delivers him another goddamned reminder of what he's lost: accidentally remaking his own form when dreams became real; his siblings winding up in others' bodies; waking up looking like his teenaged self, from a far simpler time. It rankles; makes it harder each time to feel comfortable again.

So. He asks the question, finally. ]


& ooc: I don't want to permanently 'fix' Luther, but if your character can do it, I would absolutely be open to a change backfiring or working temporarily! Feel free to plot ICly, or reach out OOCly to hash out some details!

I'm interested in knowing why the science has been taken off the table here? Because there's hardly anything more dependable than a correct set of figures.

It's imprecise, sure, but here in this world, it's had better results than the other. Could be two different routes to the same end result.

There's a lot of things about myself I would change if I could.

I have a power. I can heal injuries and illness.

Guess everybody's got something. Even if it's just, I dunno, wishing they had fewer freckles, or a steadier temper, or something more significant.

What counts as injuries?

Puncture wounds, bleeding, cuts, broken bones, sprains, head trauma, bruises, black eyes, heat stroke, burns, heart attack, shock, fainting, scrapes, scratched eye, bites, allergic reactions, poisoning, infections, fever, nausea, frostbite, hypothermia, blisters, nosebleed, toothache...It's a long list. I've even heard of hospitals using my music for comas and spine injuries.  That's how my power works - through music.

At the jagged scar across her throat, buried perfectly under layers of precisely placed makeup. She closes it. She opens it. She rolls her eyes. She closes it again. It prickles at the back of her neck. Making the hairs rise there, a needle somehow too true.

[ Wince. And there it is, the thing he was fishing for: a kind of jagged solidarity, and confirmation that somebody else feels the same way. He suspects the statement's more literal than figurative, too. ]

Yes. There was a doctor at a hospital, I though he was helping me but in the end he was just experimenting on me, to see what would happen. [ It's the first time kaneki says (writes?) this on his own, for a very long time he was in denial and really wanted to believe Dr. kanou had no idea he had done such a thing. That's wishful thinking, though, of course he knew what he was doing. ]

Could've done things differently when I was younger, save myself a lot of trouble. But I've settled into the kind of person I am by now, and there's no use going around wishing it'd be different.

But we live in a pretty spectacular world, with people who have spectacular abilities. What if it could be different?
