There is a cruel comfort in knowing that trying to talk to self-declared artists is, regardless of realm, an exercise in patience quite hard to master. I desperately do not care if one has crafted a pinwheel out of garbage, nor shall I be inclined to call it art, thank you very much.
Dare I even send this thought into this void? Perhaps I'll just be inadvertently drawing more of these sorts, eager to fuel some unconscious need to be offended and fight for their honor; it seems to be the way out on the street, in the magazines, and everywhere else...
There must be truly something to the notion of being "spoiled for choice" -- this world seems the absolute perfect example of it. Do parameters of quality even MATTER anymore when there is just so damn much of anything and no one can seem to agree at all?
Sure, why not. The ink you accidentally dripped onto your shoe is now "art."
Gods help me. Rather, someone else just kindly mark a map for me so I know how to avoid these weird avenues in the future and spare us all.

And just to head off any questions, comments, concerns, or death threats:
1. I'm not SIM.
2. I am, in fact, from a different universe.
3. I'm not hiring for surly henchpeople, and neither will I be honoring previous work contracts SIM made with surly henchpeople. If you happen to be one.
4. I'm sorry that guy was an enormous dick.
Okay, go.

And you're on one side of something great: a huge debate about what art is, who is doing it, so on and so on. So, I dunno, maybe take some consolation from that? Your view matters more now than it has on Earth in a couple centuries, at least.
We've just gotten to a point where art is more democratic than it's ever been...it'll all shake itself out in a few decades, probably.
[Cue the wild optimist, really.]

I'm fairly certain any merit my opinion has on anything in this world is almost exclusively due to the fact that I am NOT from this world. No matter how many appear, those of us labeled as imPorts are destined to be valued more as novelties, and any opinions of actual value are secondary.
I could always exploit that to my benefit, of course, but I'm not THAT miserable yet.

You don't need to exploit anything, you just need to say it and have it heard.

It’s a similar argument as to whether or not a particular written work is considered literature or poetry, whether a piece of instrumentation is considered music or not.
Thou hath stumbled upon a centuries long philosophical debate amongst scholars.

Gods, do not even get me STARTED on what some people pass for prose or poetry in this realm. Have you heard of "slam poetry"? It's excruciating.
no subject
I expect that it is more cohesive form of creative expression than the cacophony of free form jazz.

I don't really see what the fuss is about, though. If these other types of art are so inferior to yours, why even bother acknowledging them? It's not as though there's a competition for a set number of artists allowed to exist at a given time.

Oh, no, as a prospectus. If you perceive a problem with the arts here, I am deeply concerned and wish to aid in correcting it. With your help, I can target sponsorship more effectively. I'd like you to identify the problem, formally, and present suggestions for improvement.
I hope it isn't an insulting amount, but would $5,000 be enough for your time on this matter?

As for the pinwheel...Old fast food containers, I believe. I glimpsed fragments of labels.
