URGENT BULLETIN.

[ The following is secured to the network at 9 PM, via an ID that has not been present on it yet, a simple non-interactive bulletin. It will not be responded to, although imPorts are free to engage in discussion amongst themselves. ]

ATTENTION IMPORTS!

It is come to our attention that Unsettled imPorts have been allowed to skirt our regulations regarding what benefits are and aren't received up to this month, which is a dire oversight on the part of your liaisons and supervisors. Upon discovering that the budget for imPort benefits received far exceeded the amount needed for the current amount of Registered imPorts we have on file, further investigation showed that many similar oversights have been provided for non-Registered imPorts off the books that have not been sanctioned by those of us outside of Cape Canaveral.

We are getting to the bottom of this and are making cuts in the budget where they should have been already: Non-Registered imPorts were never meant to be receiving these benefits for as long as they have been. Furthermore, upon questioning your current imPort Affairs Liaison, Captain Parc Holiday, he could not account for every inconsistency we've since discovered and showed some alarming signs of blunted affect and apparent memory gaps; those inconsistencies he claimed he could recall he admitted to committing.

Make no mistake, we in the Federal Government sympathize with the imPort plight, but we cannot afford to let free resources be given out illegally; Captain Holiday does not have the authority to make such decisions. Effective immediately he has been removed from his position as ImPort/Government Affairs Liaison and has been moved into a maximum security psychiatric facility to further study his symptoms. Until we can locate a suitable replacement or Captain Holiday proves himself truly fit to resume his duties, we are promoting Lieutenant Ananke to Captain so she can operate in his stead and will be keeping an eye on the situation as well as her performance to determine what other changes may prove necessary.

- L. Chases
Secretary of Defense

It may have been.

[ but she also thinks someone will talk. she grits her teeth. ]

I come through the base often enough, but people who work directly with the Military there may have a better idea of the social standing of everyone within. Who knows who, who's heard what. I may be passing through shortly... I'll keep an ear out. I make the trip twice a day as it is. Do you have any idea how many of us work with the military in some direct capacity right now?

[ It's a little weird, having a teenage girl so serious about all this, but he vaguely remembers seeing her post to the Network recently... stranger things have happened. ]

I don't know any names off the top of my head, but Mitchell Hundred's the official imPort representative. His information might be a little out of date, but give me a minute I could probably ask him to pull up a list of whoever's on record as working for the military, if that works for you.

Though I remember somebody saying something about going up to Alaska -- that's at least one name you could start with.

[ serious teenager is in the house okay. the hardest part of being here is being thought of as a serious not-adult instead of as a serious young adult. ]

Armstrong is heading up to Alaska. I'll see if she has time to answer any questions... or how much backup she has now going up North with her. As for the other - I have the time. Nothing else to do at this hour of the night anyhow.

[ except head to Heropa to meet up with some guy she's never met in person that's legit ]

All right. Gimme a minute.

[ And a few minutes later, because like Mitch never sleeps or something, a text post follows: ]

couldnt get any names, but theres less than ten imports working directly in any direct military capacity right now. not a lot.

[ annie considers this hmm. ]

One of those would be Ira Gamagori, I know that much. Erwin Smith might be working with them in some capacity... I get less sure after that point. Ira runs drills, I'm not sure what kind of contact he has or hasn't had. Too bad we don't have a list of who's working on base.

yeah, that'd just be too convenient, huh?

i don't know if imports working there would know that much, though. i get the feeling the details on this are on a need-to-know basis.

Behavioral clues are important, too. If he's been acting less stable, or even if people have spoken about him in a different way, that's something people may have heard about by peripheral contact. People gossip. People in the military gossip as much as they do down at the market.

nah, i'd say anyone in the military is worse. i used to be in the corps -- when you've got a lot of breaks between missions, people will talk about all kinds of stuff to kill time.

No, you're right about that much. Makes for exhaustive listening, sometimes, but little wonder why anyone from the military would be set up to handle monitoring something like this network.

[ they're set up ahead of time to filter through the chatty bs to find what's potentially important - or just racy, really, personal preference factors in, if it's not just running on search parameters with ai's or something LIKE ANNIE KNOWS.......... freaking technology ]
