[The ID reads Clark Kent, as always. Not the right time to try fooling the network yet.]

Sadly, Captain Holiday was put under intensive care not long before I ended up here so I never got to talk to him. But I was hoping some of you might have gotten a chance to contact him before that. If you have, I'd appreciate if you could tell me about your conversations with him.

You don't have to tell me what the conversation was about, I understand a lot of them were confidential. [That word, he hates it. Lois might see it as a sign that she's pulling the right strings but Clark only sees it as a wall he cannot punch or fly over.]

It's really him I'm interested on. If you noticed anything weird in how he behaved, perhaps, or if he was acting completely normal.

[He pauses for a second. And then:]

I'd also be interested in talking with people who've been able to take a look at the Porter, or been in contact with it. I understand it's a privilege to be allowed near it?

Thank you.

[ she appreciates that he can think on the same lines she does. ]

Yes. The factors that people weigh in change depending on their circumstances. Respecting the Unsettled... and keeping rooms open for them is something most Registered do as a matter of practice.

Yes but it's as likely that I can show you what it is I wanted if you have time to sit down and review a post from Holiday months back. Some information he shared was directed toward imPorts who were Registered at the time only. Understandably... given there's at least a hope of greater consideration by those who choose Registration to work with the government for whom they Registered. In theory.

[ Her answer, in return, is blunt. ]

Because I got it by following government agents, and the government wouldn't look kindly on that. And I told Ms Lounds because I knew that she wasn't afraid to put the information out there.

He might think he knows, but he's probably wrong.

[ ...possibly. But, hey, if she says that with enough confidence, that might make him doubt himself, right? ]

It does help when you're able to work within a world that's similar to your own, too. Skillsets don't need to adapt quite as much for some as for others.

I'd argue next to no one does so out of loyalty. That's not how loyalty works.

It's not off record. It's simply difficult for those who aren't given access, or don't have the computer hacking skills to bypass that access and see for themselves. In this case, I figured it might help you get some context on Holiday, and what things seemed to drive him. Reasons why his lapses in memory and the way he declined feel suspicious.

yeaaaaahh

they probably figured it was no harm done cause it was all virtual but still
pretty creepy
and they shouldve told us everything upfront before we ever started

[He dragged Barnaby along with him because it sounded like fun, and then he was so horrified the first time he hit someone he threw away his paintball gun and pretty much waited to lose.]

Last I spoke with him was early September. He had been absent at import-related affairs for a few months until then, and I hadn't seen him at all after. But he had reasons for that. I imagine those reasons have only compounded further now that he's been taken out of commission.

He wasn't the most personable man, but it was hardly his job to be our friend, and he did what he was able in a position that seemed most often to be against his favor. He deserved respect for it, at the very least.

[ he didn't seem to mind her smoking either, she rather liked him actually. ]

He tortured Dr. Chilton again: that happened before I arrived, though. And in between then and now, he was ported back home where he lost use of his legs.

If we can get home.

I don't know if finding anything out that way is going to give us any answers, but I hope it will. I'm just...

I was in the place before, so I'm a little low on faith that we can get out of here. I was in the City for over four years. I guess you could say accepting this kind of prison comes naturally.

I really, really hope you're right, though.

No, don't remember who told me. It was a while ago.

Maybe my friend Annie? She seemed pretty interested in all that stuff. Do you know her?

[The C&P shows up after a moment:]

Two people had face to face meetings with the imPort last July. One was Billy Kaplan. The other was Hange Zoe. There were more who were supposed to go in, but as best as I can see, they were ported out before these meetings took place.

Billy's meeting involved a recording (this is hush hush, but ultimately fruitless ... which I suspect they know because they never caught it). We gave him a specialized contact so that he could keep track of everything.

Things he learned:

• Minor magic worked around the Porter. Billy is a very magical being, so his existence did not pose a threat. A little magic did not pose a threat.

• There is only one Porter that is the "main" one. The other three it is connected to are manmade.

• Lachesis could have access to all of them, but she hasn't turned up. You can see where I applied this information elsewhere!

• The government assumes that Lachesis accessed this world due to having limited time to find somewhere else to drop the imPorts.

• The Porter is not a flirt. (Blame Loki. You'll know who Loki is soon enough, I'm sure! He's around as much as I am.)

As for Hange Zoe, she provided

• The Porter doesn't provide any background information on the imPorts, so what's in our files is all that they've got. Where this information is inside of the Porter is unknown.

• They asked about precognition and whether that plays a role, but that's unknown.

• It used to be possible to send people home at their request, but Lachesis changed that. (Again, this has been applied elsewhere!)

• The government classifies Lachesis as a sentient and nearly omnipotent program known as Lachesis, and it scans each imPort bright in through "unknown means" to produce information like their names and abilities. It's not clear how this happens.

• The government believes that the Porter gives off radiation that gives imPorts their powers (or changes them or allows them to keep them). A caveat here is that this makes no sense! For a number of reasons. But I'll try to keep this clinical for you.

• Only imPorts can have powers. The tech here can't produce them. Which also doesn't make sense.

• Hange Zoe asked about a virtual reality simulation that we went through. It was said to be on a different spiritual plane, which ... given what happened there, is not surprising. But it doesn't rip the soul from the body.

• The government has some suspicions that the Porter (and thus, Lachesis) has motivations of its own, but those have yet to come into fruition. So, this is just stuff they said.

As you can see, what they learned was more like a Q&A session than anything else.

The information is as useful as it comes. "Radiation," for one thing, is present here when we don't have much other information on it. I'm still dubious about what role it plays or what role it has at all, but if you can dig something up, go ahead.

Tell me about it. [ john is a dutiful ex-soldier but he has problems with the government. ] Mm, only a few times. He made a network post and that's when I really got to talk to him.
