xth_gambler[Look, the scheming face of Luxord is back, and this time, it’s not plastic. Happy days. Still, the man looks pensive, and he isn’t exactly looking at the camera. Instead he is looking at a building off screen. And he does not look pleased.]
AtlanTech. Some of you may remember the extravaganza that they put on as part of the swear-in a few months back. I know I most definitely remember the event, and some of our fellow numbers in positions and situations I did not care to see with my own eyes.
[There is something akin to distaste on his normally schooled expression.]
Yes, I’m certain there were uses for many of their baubles of technology, things that will soften the lives of the native residents of this world, and potentially introduce infuriating complications into our own. Yet there was something there which caused me a prodigious apprehension.
Why, one must wonder, would a company be seeking to make a pretty flashing light that ran upon the energy and will of those of us made unwilling guests of this world? What value is there in a light that only seems to run upon the energy that is so dubiously claimed to be gifted to us by these nanites? Would it not be far simpler for them to determine what power source was driving these little parasites within our skins and use that for their pretty dalliances with entertainment? Or are their intentions more sinister?
I suggest to you that we are not merely a market they wish to sell to, or faces they wish to use to pander to the audiences who might purchase their goods. I suggest that they seek to come up with a different means by which to fight whatever tawdry battles this world has relegated itself to that are by no measure our business. I suggest that to them we are little more than disposable batteries to fuel their war machine.
[Here he at last offers a smile. It’s carefully calculated to be charming and inviting, two emotions completely beyond the abilities of the Nobody.]
And I suggest we unite to solicit answers from this organization. To be made aware of how this light show demonstration of theirs worked, precisely, their intentions upon its use, and whether it can be powered by other means. If it were to be a tool that they could power by other means and prove such, then we’ve no cause for concern. Yet if they cannot provide us answers or refuse to, then I do not believe anyone should support their efforts.
So my question to you, my fellows, is this. Does anyone have contacts within the organization? Is anyone good at parsing through technical diagrams, computer code, and electrical designs? And Are there those among our number who have a legal background who might be able to assist us in determining the best means of compelling the information we seek if the company is not forthright with a public plea?
