Case File 001; Audio
[Clears his throat. This is going to be a difficult post to make]
Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth speaking.
[The young man’s voice is clear, but stiff, with a harsh edge to it that hints at the anger bubbling underneath his skin. He represses this rage, attempting to remain composed and professional]
Earlier I received a tip from a confidential source- [Sorry Kay, he's not going to drag you out in the open, it’s too risky] - regarding a potential lead in the Lunatic case.
[A deep breath as he steels himself. This is a damning accusation to make and he knows it, and there’s no going back if he’s wrong]
Yuri Petrov, imPort advertising manager, has two files, with two different sets of abilities… and two different aliases. According to one, he’s been graced with an immunity to alcohol, but according to other? Pyrokinesis, with the ability to control and manipulate blue-green flames, specifically. Sound familiar? [A note of bitterness seeps into his tone, but he moves on quickly] And, if that’s not enough to convince you, there’s his alias, printed right on the file. Lunatic.
[A short pause follows, just enough to let the information sink in for any potential listeners.]
Unfortunately, my source only caught a mere glimpse of the files, but when I tried to confirm the discrepancy with Petrov, he was nowhere to be found. And, as much as I wish we had time to gather more information, we cannot afford to wait any longer for a response! If anyone listening has further information regarding Petrov, Lunatic, or their current whereabouts, I implore you to share anything and everything you know. With Lunatic on the move, it could mean the difference between life... and death.
[With that, he ends his little speech, and waits for a response from his fellow imPorts]
[OOC: And here’s the grand IC reveal! This post isn't strictly for conversations with Edgeworth. Feel free to talk to other characters, threadjack, and make IC plans here. Edit: And to clarify, this post takes place in the evening!]

voice laughing with salad
There've got to be imPorts with the ability to track, haven't there? With all the talents we've got, there's got to be someone.
[ Then, with just a bit of bitterness creeping in: ]
Looks like the government's not about to help.
hush hush keep it down now voices carry
[Harrumphs to himself]
I'm afraid that I'm woefully unconnected to the larger imPort community. I don't suppose you know anyone capable of that specific feat?
[In other words, if you're going to jump in the conversation, make yourself useful]
this thread is now via the format of [whisper]
I don't. This is public, yeah? I expect someone will speak up.
[ And, pointedly: ]
And I'm guessing it was our imPort file your source saw, yeah? The one that we all got handed soon as we came out of the Porter?
no subject
Yes.
no subject
Yeah.
no subject
[That smug little-! He's not sure what's worse, the way she says that word, or the fact that he doesn't have an argument prepared against it.
...so he'll just ignore it. He needs to stay on topic. He needs to focus on Lunatic right now instead of chasing after tangents]
And do you actually have anything else to contribute?
no subject
[ She doesn't like this smug, snotty kid. He's got a jumped-up manner she doesn't like one bit, and an officiousness that reminds her of a magician. To say nothing of his eagerness to kiss up to the incompetents in their government. He's doing the right thing, coming out with this, sharing this information with everyone - she reminds herself of that, and so she doesn't get snappy. But his manner brings out a bit of aggression from her. She gets blusterier. ]
You'll need me to take him down.
no subject
[And he, in turn, dislikes the way she talks: her reckless tone, her cocky demeanor, the way words and ideas spill out of her mouth without a plan to guide them. This isn't the first bold claim he's heard her make over the network; can she actually back it up this time?]
no subject
[ There's a grim satisfaction in her tone. No question that she knows just how vital that is. ]
Meaning no one gets hurt. No casualties. Including him. Because you know someone that mad would burn himself to death before being arrested if we gave him the chance.
no subject
...so, how does that work, exactly?
[Speaking slowly, cautiously, keeping his tone as neutral as possible]
-> private
Find someone good. Someone fast. Get me in close. All I need is to grab onto him, and he might as well be a wet match for all the good he does. For as long as I'm holding on.
-> private
If good and fast was enough, that man would be caught by now. But, if you had enough people, a large enough group of individuals, then you could keep him distracted...
[His voice trails off, still thinking through the logistics of this plan]
-> private
Easy enough. And as long as I'm good enough, not a single one of those people will get so much as singed eyebrows.
[ But - ]
Before I agree to help your police arrest him, I need a promise from you.
-> private
-> private
-> private
[A long pause follows. When he speaks again, his neutral, professional tone is put back on, albeit strained and tense]
I'm afraid I don't have the power to make that promise, Miss Jones. All I can promise is to be thorough, and to gather as much proof as possible.
-> private
You work for them, don't you? You're one of their lawyers?
-> private
My position is not nearly as prestigious as you imagine. [And he hates it] Yes, I am one of their lawyers, but a low ranking one, forced to pick up the pettiest, most banal cases imaginable.
[Traffic court! Forced to work traffic court, of all thing! With the occasional misdemeanor thrown in, just to break up the monotony.]
So, assuming this does go to trial, then I'm afraid I'll lack the... [Takes a moment to seethe] ... authority to influence it.
-> private
God, this kid really is Mandrake's American twin, though, isn't he? She's certain she heard the exact same speech out of his mouth. Just minus the bits about actually being in the law. ]
Fine. Then can you put me in touch with someone who actually does have a bit of authority? Your boss or someone?
-> private
[Not to mention that this may not be... standard procedure oops. It's not illegal! Just... perhaps not completely approved of]
-> private
Well - can't you bloody well go beyond the authority they handed you? Even someone at the bottom of the heap has got to at least know when someone's being tortured, or if they're being executed in the middle of the night. That's not about authority, that's about keeping your eyes open.
[ Which leads her to amend her first offer. ]
I'll help if you pass that information along to me. If they're doing any of that.
-> private
Unlike some people here, I'm not in the business of making promises I can't keep.
[There's a sharp intake of air, and a brief pause]
...however, I will pass along what information I can.
[Doesn't feel as conflicted as that promise as one might suspect. After all, he doubts that he'll have any information to give her at all. As far as he sees it, it's gaining something for nothing]
-> private
Here's hoping he's not as dishonest as Mandrake. ]
I'll hold you to that.
[ Somehow. As though you'd magically know if he were lying. ]
And I'll help. Are you coordinating the arrest, or is that outside your authority, too?
-> private
We'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Before we can plan any sort of arrest, though, we need to finish gathering information. We have someone who claims he can find Petrov, but first, he wants more solid proof regarding his connection to Lunatic.
