[ The video clicks on to show Newt, but he doesn't really seem focused on the device at all. Staring past it, eyes clouded with... something. The feed jerks around sporadically from shaking hands, and Newt looks filthy on screen, like he's been in one too many fights that he may not have won, covered in dirt and grime, blood and wounds.

After a minute of this, his eyes snap to the screen, clearing with recognition, remembering what he'd turned it on for in the first place. ]

Sorry, I- I'm... not well. I've got the Flare and it's getting worse. [ A deep breath, and he's dragging a trembling hand through his hair. ]

I think I'm contagious, and that means you're all infected unless... there's people called Munies- [ his expression sours at the term ] Immunes, shanks that don't get sick with it. Don't know if they exist here, you're better off going to a hospital, getting tested for disease or somethin'.

Just- for God's sake, don't bloody breathe on anyone until you do or we'll all be dead.

[ His eyes seem to clear and he jerks his head in an awkward head shake. ] I know, I know- sorry. I didn't mean to snap like that.

That's how it starts. Things just setting you off, making you angry. Things that wouldn't normally incite that kinda reaction. You get real irritable, til that's all you are. Then you get... violent, and start forgetting. Half the time you don't even realize what you're doing.

It's okay. I mean, if anger is one of the symptoms and you're infected, it makes sense. Any idea on how to treat or cure it? Was there a cure back home? Maybe with the people that are immune, if we use them to try make a vaccine or something?

There wasn't a cure, I'm damn sure of it. No way the world would still be completely terrified of them if there was. WICKED was doing... tests. On Immunes, and on the control subjects. Studying their brains, tryin' to figure out what makes 'em tick differently than the rest of us. If they'd had a cure they would have given it.

But...that doesn't mean there's not a chance we could figure one here? I mean, with these resources. I get the impression your world wasn't so advanced tech or medically. So it's possible? Especially if whoever WICKED was, was still trying to figure something out.

Your impression's a bit off, then. Our world's real advanced technology wise. Medically, probably not as much, but I'd imagine that's because it lost a lot with the bloody sun flares that released this virus in the first place. Maybe here there's something, there's magic and klunk here we don't have, and the nanites froze it before, I'd wager, since this didn't happen half a buggin' year ago when I first showed up.

So medically, there has to be something we can do. There has to be something we can figure out to stop this. The nanites, the medical stuff here in comparison. I know you said there wasn't a cure back home, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. You were here that long and it wasn't an issue....gotta be the nanites, right?

Only thing that makes sense, it's the only thing different from there to here. I'd assumed WICKED was bluffing when they said we'd had it, because none of were showin' symptoms. Guessing the nanites weren't designed to fight a disease when it gets this bad, cause they're doing shuck all about it now. Seems like it might not be fighting it for others now either.

Either way, we have to at least try something. Thanks for the heads up at least. I'll help the Major General with the quarantine and all and see what we can do.

Well, I hope to bloody hell you don't agree with her backup plan.

I'm aware she can be kind of....extreme might be a bit much, but you get the idea. But suffice to say, I have my disagreements with her over some things. She knows that and I can still work with her and others if I have to.

Extreme isn't the word I'd use. [ His choice would be a lot more colorful. ]

Don't let her use that back up plan, no matter what happens.

But yeah. I'll be careful and I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. She's already...thinking I might run off since a friend of mine is infected. But I know they need me here.

[Ed himself is snapping a little. Not that he's infected but he's been strained, inwardly freaking out that Winry's infected and frustrated with how helpless he feels to do anything to really help, unable to actually be there in person for her during this mess.]

You think I want her to go that far? I know she does whatever it takes, but I'm not going to let her do that. Not while there's a chance we can fix this. I'll do what I can from my end here.
