001 First Trial [Video/action]

[He's still disoriented and sick when the jeep drops him off in front of what is apparently his new house and Sam isn't sure if he's hallucinating or not but it seriously looks like the damned thing is hovering and not driving. Which shouldn't be possible, but in the span of the last few hours, his entire world has been ripped away and turned on it's ear.

Heropa needs you, Mr. Winchester. America needs you.

Sam had tried, in vain, to explain to them that giving him powers was a monumentally bad idea, but no one seemed to listen to his protests as he was shuttled to and fro and had a file shoved under his nose.

His head is spinning, his legs feel like they're about to give out and it's a damned good thing there's a bench nearby because it would have been that or simply faceplant on the concrete and he's pretty sure heroes don't pass out.

So he flips on the device he'd been handed, giving Heropa a good look at a very pale, very worn down looking young man.] Hey, so I've already been given the basics but not the why. Why us? Why powers?

[Wearily he scrubs at his face before deciding to backtrack.] Let me guess, no one knows that either. Okay. So how about something more basic? Like is there a hospital or healer around here? I don't think they really need a hero that's going to pass out after climbing a flight of freaking stairs.

Dean? [Wait. No one mentioned taking his brother too and the temperature around him drops sharply enough that frost can be seen forming along the back of the bench.] You're here too? How? I just.. I just saw you.

[And duh. You know why he needs a healer.] The trials, Dean. Can barely hunt at home, I sure as hell can't be a superhero here without some help.

Thank you. They said that there were healers in the city that could help. Guess whatever technology they have that brought me here couldn't undo the damage too.

That part just came with me. Wasn't exactly at my best when I got pulled in here. [Sam holds up his hand, watching as frost forms around his fingertips.] But the cold helps, at least a little.

[Sam can't help the chuckle because this is a little too much like talking to his brother.] Yeah. Guess I walked right into that one, didn't I?

Why not us? We were chosen for a greater purpose, given the gift of these new and wonderful abilities. There is a reason you're here, and one that you need only look inside yourself to answer.

[Sam pulls a face. He's heard that line before and while he'd fallen for it once, it won't happen a second time.] Abilities don't always mean a greater purpose. Power can corrupt just as easily as it can uplift.

You know, I don't think we've ever gotten an answer on why they've given us powers. I know back in the previous city, they wanted people to be heroes and they saw the powers as key to it, so there might be something to it here. But then, that doesn't seem right, either. Like, why are powers intrinsic to heroics?

I certainly don't think they are.

[Kate mulls over this thought for a second, and then quickly adds:]

Sorry, I don't have more of an answer to that! There are the ramifications of us having powers, but that's a different thing altogether. There are theories on how we get them. But why, well, good question.

Personally, I'm still not a fan.

Powers aren't the key to someone doing the right thing. [A rueful sort of smile.] Sometimes they can even make it worse. [Something he's both seen an experienced firsthand.]

It's the ramifications I don't like, honestly. I haven't figured out how to keep mine under control - I could wind up hurting someone. They have enough power to drag us in, but shoving powers in us? I don't like this.

Yeah, I know. Not much choice in the matter.

There is no why, at least not that we know of yet. The Porter is what decides.

There are hospitals, though. Their location depends on the city you are located in right now.

And, having been inside that noggin, Lucifer doesn't need contacts to see the tiny differences, the fact that Sam is older, that he's aged mentally rather than just physically. Of course, being a hunter is hard work, being a brother is harder, and Sam has changed. Now he just looks tired. Broken. Exhausted. He looks like he's been dragged through...oh wait.

Ha, that's funny.

But does he drop into this post and give Sammy a good old Cagebuddies welcome? Does he let Dean fill him in on the details and catch up with the boys later? Sam looks like a strong wind would knock him over, and a shock like Lucifer being here might be just enough...

But he's the actual Devil... ]

He pulled up the video, leaning right down into it, lips pulled into a grin which is evident in every part of his expression. The smile is focused; intent. ]

[By the time Sam responds, Dean has already whisked him away to a hospital. He's pale, tired, and doesn't look all that thrilled about being hijacked by his big brother. But he isn't one to turn down help.] Thanks. My brother panicked and I'm over at the hospital now.

But we've been taken from our own worlds. If they don't want us to know, then isn't it our job to find out?
