[ Someone's just given her first class of the day. The white-board behind Verity is wreathed in high-school physics ("What is a Vector? A quantity that displays both magnitude (numerical size) and direction...") used to teach the kids who are now enjoying a short break in between lessons (and yelling like freight trains outside). Setting down the video so she can wipe the previous writing off, if you know her then you might notice a little effort having been put into her appearance with an actual teacher-y skirt and heels. No joggers! She showered!! Amazing.

Tucking ruffled pink hair behind an ear, she pushes her glasses back up and flashes a smile. Little awkward, but. ]

Hi, my name's Verity Willis.

If you're a student at Xavier's School for Imports, this is a quick PSA that I'll be your new student counsellor from now on — it's been rehiring, obviously, and won't be closing, or so I've been told. Should you need to talk then come and find me, you don't need an appointment! I also teach Physics and Data Programming, so if you want an intro to either of those make sure you attend class over the next few weeks. When you can't find me in the classrooms or labs, come by the offices and one of the other teachers will give my phone a call.

[ About to sign off with a smile, she remembers to flatly add, ] Oh, and if you're going to lie about why you haven't done your homework? Don't. You'll get double just like the brave soul from the Tenth Grade yesterday.

He didn't say? I'm sorry for spoiling the surprise, then. But yes, we were assigned to the same government housing initially and have had quite a few opportunities to talk; I'm confident his experience will serve him well.

Unfortunately, I won't be joining you as a resident, I'm afraid. I've got quite a few plates to spin at the moment. But I'm sure you'll see plenty of me nonetheless.

Though whether or not that makes it sensible is still up in the air.

For the sunshine maybe, but I'm from New York. [ Where's her rain? Give her rain, stat. Skewering the conversation away from the real reason for her taking the placement at Xavier's, she winkles her nose for effect. ] Although, maybe my love of semi-soggy weather makes me even weirder.

Have you considered the Pacific Northwest? All the rain you could ever want.

Completely serious. Xanatos Enterprises' headquarters is the tallest building in Midtown, where I'm from. I made sure to include a living quarters on the top few floors in the blueprint.

Just on the top few floors, sure. [ Wrinkling her nose because that's definitely a normal thing to say, he isn't being teased at all. You nerd. ] Because half would have been overkill.

I'd hate to be seen as ostentatious, naturally. And that's not even talking about the castle. [Said with a wide grin. Almost like he's joking.

Except he sounds completely serious.]

[ Amused, she wryly grinds out, ] Showing off in front of a polygraph never pays one way or another, you know.

A polygraph? You can sense when someone's lying? What a useful power. [Also, potentially troublesome. He'll have to make a note to not lie around her.

Which is annoying, because he's such a damn good liar.] But you can tell, then, that I wasn't kidding about the castle.

[ "Useful" is one word for it, especially ever since she's been in multidimensional (omnidimensional?) superville!Earth.

Verity snorts, smiling. ]

Maybe if you build something here that's a little more useful than a castle, I'll be impressed.

Oh, I assure you; it was anything but useless. [Telling the truth.] It wasn't so much 'built,' per se-- it was an authentic castle from Scotland, Castle Wyvern, that I had disassembled and reconstructed brick by brick on the top of the Manhattan skyscraper.

I'm allowed to be. Besides, I'd rather underestimate myself and be pleasantly surprised, as opposed to assume this will be a breeze and then find it all falling out from under my feet. [been there, done that. sorta]

Don't overestimate yourself, but a healthy dose of confidence never hurt anyone.

At any rate, I'll do what I can to support you. Hire a good administrative team from the native population, fill in the blanks where we can't hire imPort instructors, the works.
