In the several months I've been here, I've yet to encounter anyone who has anything similar to the Weapon and Meister abilities in my world, which function on the principle called Soul Resonance, wherein two people are able to synchronize their soul wavelengths together. I've been wondering if there's any parallel abilities that which others are aware of, or can relate to from their homes? It's such a normal part of my world that it seems strange that it's 100% unique to one universe.

Actually, perhaps I should have prefaced this with: in how many other worlds is the soul understood to be a tangible force, not merely an abstract concept?

The metaphysical concept of the 'soul' has been a bit more codified in my world into something measurable called a 'ghost'! It's a phenomena mostly limited to human beings, and they generally can't be duplicated, although they can be transferred!

I've speculated in the past on whether or not its possible for ghosts to develop in complex non-human systems, but it's pure theory, really, I don't even know how I would try to test that!

Souls and ghosts are two different things, they're not interchangeable terms; ghosts have souls as well, in the strictest sense of it.

How would one transfer it, in the context you're familiar with?

I suppose in my world 'soul' means the same as 'spirit'- it's what separates living creatures from inanimate objects. When people- or animals- die, their spirits pass into Death, to be carried away by the river- or they attempt to cling to Life, and become monsters.

I suppose the closest thing to what you call Soul Resonance, is groups of Charter Mages combining their powers to create a stronger connection to the Charter, and draw upon powerful marks more easily.

That seems to have the same correlation to what I'm familiar with, regarding what you call a spirit. Although I suppose that would then lead to confusion regarding what you would actually call a spirit...

I don't know if you could really call it our soul, but...it sounds sort of similar to something we can do at home.

[As for the question on souls...he didn't really know what to say to that, and he didn't really care either. Nen was a use of life-force, and it could be powerful enough to be a force even after death--if that counted.]

If my question was in regards to Weapons and Meisters, then I would have. I'm aware they're contextless terms at the moment. What is not, however, is the description of Soul Resonance, which is what I'm inquiring after.

There is an ability called Cross Fusion that creates a hybrid being through the synchronisation of an AI and a human, but it was only recently developed and is only used for special circumstances. AIs are also able to synchronise with one another, theoretically, but I've only ever seen one with the ability to execute it.

We have no concept similar to this where I am from. Nothing even remotely close, at that.

...the concept of a soul is typically from a religious perspective. I am not of any particular faith, so though I certainly consider the skill the essence of one's self I have not taken that thought much further.

Nearly all religions reference souls, in their own contexts, but souls are not inherently religious in nature, no more than a person's physical characteristics or personality traits are.

I don't think anyone knows for sure back in my world. It depends if you are religious or not. Mostly abstract, I think, but I think people hoped it can be tangible.

Religions are a lens through which souls can be better understood, not the source of them, but it's certainly true that some delve into the concept with more enthusiasm than others.

Commonplace? That's very interesting. Such a phenomena exists in my world, but it's very rare. It only manifest within one very small denomination of people, and yet is yet still almost unheard of, even within their ranks.

It's not a universal ability in mine either, but the percentage of the population capable of finding a partner to resonante with is actually higher than most people in my world realize. There is inherent potential in most people to become a Meister, but being a Weapon is a genetic trait one inherits at birth, so there are fewer of them in the world.

Well, in everyone there's the body, the soul and the mind. At least, in terms of alchemy. I guess the soul is like the personality of someone? What makes them....them? Hard to explain, exactly. I guess it's kind of tangible in a way? I mean, alchemists can work with them, can separate the soul from the mind and body. Never heard of soul resonance though.

Alchemists? I assume if you're speaking of separating out a soul, you're not speaking of the physical only property change.

It's been my experience that where there is one, others are likely to also exist.

Ghosts are different than souls -- rather, ghosts still have souls -- but I can see where the interchangeable term may come from.
