[ 'Sup MoM. It's your favourite nerdy teenager. She's sitting on the edge of her bed, pieces of drawing paper where they usually are, scattered around her like she's a storm. Mostly she's been passing the time with working on her power. So far she's managed to pull all sorts out of paper - crooked jewellery, imperfect and smudged mugs, hairclips that don't hold her hair very well. She just wishes she could be better, be useful.

That's not why she's on the network today though. ]

So yesterday was my birthday. [ She says it with a little shrug and a smile, it's not that big of a deal. ] My birthday was also two and a half months ago. So does that make me sixteen still? Or have I just advanced to seventeen? I don't know how any of this works. It's not like time travel exists where I'm from.

[ It's mild curiosity. It's not like seventeen means she can do much more with her life. ]

Oh! Also. What do you think's a good starter pet? I've never had one before. I think I want something fluffy though.

Happy Birthday for whenever it is.

Generally rodents, hamsters, mice, that sort of thing makes for a good first time pet. You only have to give them plenty of space and look up food that's bad for them. More or less take care of themselves.

My best friend got turned into a rat once.

I don't think I'd be able to look after one without thinking of him. [ And she misses him so much. ]

As far as pets go, cats are good. They're pretty independent, you just need to change their litter box and set their food out.

As for pets, I think cats are the easiest. Definitely fluffy, and there's no better animal for cuddles.

Most people are saying cats. I just know two cats and neither of them like me much. But maybe if I get a kitten I can convince it to.

I don't know. I've literally never thought about it before. My mom and I live in an apartment so we've not been able to get something. But I think I like the idea of a cat.

I don't think birthdays matter too much when you're yanked from one timeline to another. I'm not sure how old to say I am, either. But I think you should go with whatever gets you more cake.

As for the animal, get something easy to look after. Something that won't mind you tripping over it would be best.

As for pets... mm, I'd recommend a cat. They're fairly self sufficient.
