[Kal is actually not so happy about having to use video. He's made sure to get as much sun as he could so his scars are barely visible anymore, but that doesn't really help much in the great scheme of things. And the thing is? He didn't even have to do this post- he didn't have anything to say that couldn't wait. So he had no reason for this.

Except his own pride. And that had always been his heal of Achilles, the one thing that made him rush into things even when he knew better. Pride was what had gotten him in this situation, actually. And pride was what told him he couldn't let himself seem so weak, not for this long.]

So first of all, I really am sorry. I know some of you were... angry at some of us for not giving a straight warning about Dr Crane. We- [And then he thinks better of it, and corrects himself:] I thought it'd be better to give him a chance in this place but it obviously didn't work out.

For those of you who need proof I can a hundred per cent confirm it was him. He had me in the basement for a little over a week. There's signs of me in that basement for anyone who wants to check. His culpability isn't in question.

But we should really try to make sure something like this doesn't happen anymore. I'm really not sure how we could do something like this without keeping people from their chance to redeem while in this place- it wouldn't exactly be fair. But we can't let something like what happened repeat itself either. So if anyone's got suggestions I'm all ears.

And again, I fully accept responsibility for not making you all aware of his past.

Well, kind of? I'm not apologizing for his actions. But I really should have known better than to not warn people someone so dangerous was around. And I definitely should have been more careful.

[Barnaby doesn't understand how anyone here could know about Crane's sordid past and still think they were doing the right thing by keeping it a secret. Of course he understands why they can't throw people in jail, but there is no reason someone like Crane should have been allowed to resume his practice. As far as Barnaby is concerned, the people who knew, the ones who thought they alone should be privy to Crane's true character, are partly responsible for things getting so out of hand.

He knows people who suffered because of Crane's actions. Even Kotetsu had suffered. And Barnaby himself dodged a very, very close bullet that could have sent his mental stability teetering over the edge.

It's no surprise, then, that he resorts to text. His face and voice would betray how he really feels right now.]

Personally, I believe people who are predisposed toward violence shouldn't be allowed to work with patients, children, the elderly, or other similarly vulnerable populations.

We don't have to throw anyone into jail for crimes they didn't commit in this world, but there's no reason to leave these types of people in positions of power over others, especially when past actions indicate they'll just take advantage of them again.

I understand where you're coming from, which is the point of this post. But where do you draw the line? 'Predisposed towards violence' is a very vague term. A lot of people would say I fit in that category, actually. And he was given this job, who are we to just take it away from him? We have no authority here. [And they technically didn't have it back home either, but. Still.]

It's very hard to draw the line. Which is why I'm trying to figure out a system to make it work.

We all make mistakes. If we were all assigned a 24/7 guard we'd all eventually end up in prison. I know I would be already, and I haven't even been here for a year. Putting that kind of pressure on a person isn't fair.

But putting people in danger by not telling them isn't fair either so we should definitely start being open about this kind of thing.

I don't know how much the perspective of someone who's been on the other side of this issue means to you, but sometimes there's a point where a line has to be drawn. A guy that likes torturing people and a guy that just likes robbing banks are two very different kinds of people.

Of course, that begs the question--how do you decide where that line is? How do you make that fair? And there's no easy answer to that.

That's what I am afraid exactly. Sure, murder and torture are very different from jaywalking but all of us aren't going to have the same visceral reactions to certain crimes. Or want the same punishments. Sure, I should have told people about Crane because he's incredibly dangerous- but I didn't tell people about you and your friend either.

I can't be the one to decide where to draw the line between the two very different situations.

Some people don't deserve a chance at redemption. Some people are sick bastards who never get any better. But it's true that what we did in Crane's case wasn't the right thing to do.

It's all well and good allowing people the opportunity to redeem themselves. I would certainly agree people need a second chance if we can give it.

However, putting that opportunity ahead of the safety and well being of those without such pasts shows an astonishing lack of foresight and compassion to the point of negligence. This was a large scale attack. People don't wake up one morning and have that sort of gaul. We deserved the warning.

Perhaps the gentleman above might be more forgiving if he'd known ahead of time.

You did, and it was indeed a lack of foresight. I'm really not sure what I was thinking about.

[Part of him does know. Because when Batman tells him he'll handle it he trusts he will, trusts him with all he has even if it isn't the same Batman he's always known. But he isn't going to let people pin the blame on Batman and him alone, because he also knew. He knew, and didn't move a finger. He just sat there and... hoped.]

But again, I'm not really comfortable with just sitting there and pointing fingers wherever someone that has done something bad back home appears. There should be some... guidelines. Some rules. Something to draw the line.

He suppresses a laugh however at the whole being "detained" by Crane. If someone so ordinary (other than the whole making people mass hallucinate) could capture someone so supposedly powerful, Peter is certain he could take the man down. Especially one without magic.

Peter however offers a consoling look. ]

It's all right, chum. Even the best of us make mistakes and redemption is an admirable goal. Sadly, not many take to such a concept.
