[He nods, then gets back up, moving to collect plates and silverware.]

You have something to drink or should I get something out of the fridge?

[Capsule gives a little bark at that last one. You nailed it right on the head, Riku. He's going to regret the day he can't fit in that coat anymore.

Kaneda meanwhile, ruffles that head and starts to open the boxes, completely forgetting that drinks are also a thing that comes with dinner.]

You got any tea?

[Atoli has woken up by this time, in part because of Capsule's barking, and when Riku stands again, she makes her way over to Kaneda's lap, pillowing her head on his leg.]

Um, can you be more specific? Iced tea, hot tea?

[There's a blank blink at Riku, hand instinctively going to Atoli to run along her head and back. Truth be told...he's too used to just 'tea' back home. IT COMES IN ICED?!?!?!?]

Hot.

[The look he's giving, Riku.]

Haha. Okay.

[Riku nods, then moves to set up the kettle, poking through his cupboard.]

Kang has tea, too... huh.

[Kaneda cranes his neck to get a better look into the kitchen, not wanting to disturb Atoli.]

Is that weird?

Nah, I just... I guess I don't expect much overlap between his culture and human culture. But I guess it fits his personality.

Guess you've got a point--but everyone likes tea, right?

It's like water, one of those things everyone has.

Well... to be honest, back home we didn't drink a lot of it, since it was so hot. Chilled, maybe.

Guess it makes sense if you live on a beach.

It sounds like it'd taste weird...

It's... like juice, almost. They sweeten it.

[Riku does his thing with the kettle, bringing back a pot of tea and a couple of cups.]

Sorry, Capsule. You probably won't like it.

[Scooping Atoli into his lap, Kaneda leans forward, pulling his cup slightly closer to help make room for the kettle.

Capsule, however, sniffs the cups curiously, and then wags his tail at Riku. From the looks of it, he's just happy to be there.]

Heh, I don't think he minds too much.

[A glance down at Atoli.]

I don't think you can handle it, either.

[He smiles quietly, setting down the tea things and settling back beside Kaneda, reaching to pat Capsule's head.]

She'd burn her tongue.

[He nods wisely, then sighs -- he can't keep joking around like this right now. It's.... tiring.]

Thanks for bringing this stuff.

[Kaneda's quick to sober up at that, bending his legs up to sit as he grabs some takeout.]

He's the one who helped you back home, huh.

[He nods, opening a packet of some sort of sweet sauce and squeezing it slowly onto his fried rice.]

Mmn. I mean, it wasn't just him, but... I don't know. It's weird, you know? He was from like, more than a year behind me. So for him, so much of the stuff between us hadn't happened. Without him and Kairi, I don't think I'd... be me right now. And you and I probably wouldn't be friends, because I wouldn't be... doing things.

Weird...

[He plays with his chopsticks, putting a piece of chicken into his mouth as he tilts his head back.]

That's how things work in the world though. It's like...don't they say its like when you drop a rock in water or something?

Yeah. Because when you look back, you can kinda follow the path the events took.

[He smiles, taking a sip of his tea.]

He is, I think. He's... important, in way too many ways, and he doesn't know that he is. He just... goes about his business.

Guess he's got more important things on his mind, you know?

Sounds like a big damn hero to me.

[But he means that in the nicest way.]

Too much for his own good. He never thinks about himself at all, you know? I can't imagine being like that.

Guess that means you've got to think for him, right?

I... pff. Yeah, that didn't work out all that well.

Sometimes it doesn't.

I guess so. I... don't know. Sometimes I feel like I haven't changed at all, you know?

Maybe it's cause you look at yourself every day.

Other people tend to notice that shit more than you usually do.

Guess so. I just... I can feel it inside, you know? The way I felt back then, when I was angry at him... it'd be so easy to do that again.
