Christmas, Christmas, Christmas. Everyone's talking about it, but... I've never seen anyone talk about it this much. It's a much bigger deal in America than it was back home. I don't get it.

Like, if you're expected to get everyone gifts, how are those gifts at all meaningful? If it's the thought that counts, shouldn't the gift have come from nowhere, and not some... Holiday obligation, or whatever?

Someone please explain. What is the point?

Yeah! Ashiya never lets me buy anything extra, but you know--humans feel indebted to you once you buy them something. So it's a tactical move!

I've come to notice americans tend to do a big deal out of everything that can be commercialized on a national scale.

Though, I don't see a problem with sharing gifts.

Nah, the gift sharin' thing isn't what gets me. In Japan Christmas means fried chicken and cake. In America it's all indoor trees and socks and um. Cake that is made out of nasty fruit?

It means romantic dates too. [ in fact, that's basically how most see it. A romantic time. ] Though, Christmas in Japan is an imported holiday, basically.

I don't know about Christmas food [ he can't have any ] but every country seems to have their own tradition.

I don't pay attention to that part if I can help it. My roommate generally has three girls over at our place at a time. It's a serious pain.

But I dunno. Christmas food better be worth all the hype, s'all I'm sayin'.

Well, they seem to have a big variety to offer here, from what I've seen in the malls.

Well, I don't know how online shopping works in this world, though if you are familiar with it, then you'll have it easy.

My work is online, so. Yeah. Pretty familiar.

"It's the thought that counts" is just a thing people say to be polite when they're disappointed. Christmas is a financial burden and only kids and people with money enjoy it sincerely.

Me, I went onto a bunch of anon forums and asked for shit for my online accounts. Not gonna trouble with my real life friends. I have nothing to offer, anyway. I'm trying to figure out how the supposed "birth of the son of God" means "Quick! Buy presents!"

Sorta like how the day after the day of "Be thankful for what you have!" is the day of "Quick! Buy PRESENTS!"

It's true, though.

I'm pretty sure the whole gift-giving thing has to do with the three wise men bringing gifts to Jesus when he was born. But now it's all commercialism and societal obligation and your little sister throwing a fit because you forgot to shop for her when you were buying shit for all the other 5 kids in your family and I'm not made of fucking money Lilith.

Well I have five kid sisters but yes, one of them is named Lilith.

And it's a name she fucking deserves. I love her and all, but she really needs to learn how to cope with not being the center of attention all the damn time.

Anyway, maybe if you don't have six siblings to buy shit for every year Christmas makes you less cynical, but that ship has sailed for me.
