[ Kanaya turns on the camera, glancing at a distant point to the side, wearing a great scowl. ]

Have you ever had those days when you've had to empty out your savings to relocate friends whose lives are in active danger?

[ She finally looks at the camera directly, as Ashiah can be seen bumbling across the wall behind her. ] I think it's time to admit I need a new weapon. The Porter recently took the one I've relied upon for years, and this [ She brings her hand up, holding a large knife. ] has proven a feeble replacement. I'd prefer something with more weight and reach, something that can actually deal damage. Motorized, if possible.

So, I'm open to suggestions. If you craft any yourself, sell me on your product. I'm willing to learn something new, but no firearms. They don't agree with my style.

And you fear that because they're vampires they won't be held the same way in court? I mean- in all honesty, this was all fairy tales for me a few weeks back, but if you're recognized as a citizen that's it, the law is the law.

[ Then again, not everyone's opinion is so clean cut as hers. ]

If this werewolf were to gain some sort of grace while being incarcerated we can work on something to make sure he stays there, too.

Well, they certainly have more right to citizenry than the rest of us do! Unlike every other vampire currently on this planet, these are natives.

They weren't able to spread it the way it was spread to them, that much has already been proven. But that didn't matter to him, he just saw abominations weak enough to prey on.

They haven't hurt anyone, right? While it's not really relevant when it comes to their rights, if they're free of guilt it should be easier to defend their position.

[ Kim just... shrugs. This damn place. ]

It would be hypocritical to treat a group of beings differently considering just how many different people we get.

[ While it shouldn't be relevant, and Kanaya's had to make that argument so many times in justifying their right to continue living in undeath, Kim asked. She may as well be honest. ]

They were abandoned by their sire after he turned them. I did my best to teach them how to manage their needs afterward, but one of them took me some time to track down.

He needed to feed, of course. He'd just experienced a drastic alteration of everything he is. The process can be very...overwhelming, especially when you're new to it. You may be able to imagine what happened before I found him, and he came under fire from a necromancer affiliated with the imPort authorities.

Because of her outlook on them, and an unwillingness to see them as victims, rather than potential predators, I don't think my concerns with perceptions are unfounded. Particularly as she's the sort of person who may be called as an expert witness.

[ She shakes her head, realizing she's digressed. ]

Either way, She put a magical binding on him to prevent him from attacking or feeding on anyone without their express permission. Not even as a temporary measure, but to be left indefinitely, possibly even beyond her return to her source world. And now he's dead, and was entirely unable even to defend himself.

[ Kanaya rolls her eyes, frowning. ]

Assuming the court doesn't simply glaze their eyes and stare dumbfounded at the whole thing. I'm a little skeptical that litigation would really get me anywhere.
