Okay, I've been here for less than a day, so would someone mind explaining to me how it is that the United States government can allocate all these funds to keep us imPorts in nicely furnished, comfortable homes in several cities, and expect native businesses and companies to provide us with paid employment, yet its own citizens are still facing what seem like absurd rates of homelessness? Like I said, I only just arrived, but it didn't take me long to find people who have lost their jobs and homes to make way for the growing imPort population.

[ Someone spent his whole first day in Heropa in a park, befriending homeless people. Continuing on, he sighs heavily, as though this is personally wronging and inconveniencing him, not people he doesn't even know. ]

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we're to blame for this. After all, it's not as though it's our fault some unstable technology yanked us from our worlds and lives. Of course this world's government would have to provide for us until we can return home. But every single one of us has the responsibility to give back.

So, what are you doing to help? I'll be taking donations to start up a charity for natives displaced by our presence, if you can't come up with anything on your own.

Maybe, but I'm still not sure if I'm going to take it as a compliment.

Well, considering the Green Lanterns I've known...

[ Probably not. ]

Perhaps that was a compliment in poor taste, then.

[ A pause. ] So tell me! What is it you really want to accomplish with this...initiative of yours?

Where are they going to go? What are you going to provide for them?

Call me a curious potential investor, if you must.

If the government can pour funds into building and furnishing houses and apartments for imports, why can't they do the same to house their homeless populations? If they can leave furnished houses sitting empty for future import arrival, I think they can find the funds and space to put up, at the very least, temporary housing for people who need help.

Ah. [ A pause.

Shade doesn't involve himself in politics, so this is awkward. ]

I suppose it's a fair point, and a noble endeavor for imports to step in where their own government has failed.

[ Piper's entire life of late has been about involving himself in politics. He even tried to assassinate a presidential candidate! That was fun. ]

Mmm, best for you mortals to do so, I've found.

Involve myself too much, and I start thinking like the rest of them. The Al-Ghuls and the Savages, and the like. I think I will leave such a thing to you.

It would be a really nice change if there were an immortal who cared about making the world they're living in forever a better place, instead of just wanting to take it over like a crazed tyrant.
