[ The feed comes to life, and the voice talking is of a young girl. It sounds firm enough to cover her nerves, but she still has to marshal it to remain strong. ]

My name is Sophie Foster, I'm thirteen years old. I'm only saying that so people don't ask me all the time. [ She sighs; yes, she's young, no, she's not a lost little girl... even if she kind of is. ]

Obviously, I'm new. Right now I really don't have the strength to panic about being here or realizing that somehow an unsustainable situation has been sustained for roughly twenty years more than it should, disregarding the sociopolitical implications that should be evident but nooo... so I'm just going to ask... does anyone know where can I buy cheap clothes? Mine stand out too much.

[ A moment of silence, in which she debates whether to end the message there or take a risk. A risk it is. ]

What do you guys think about elves? Is the name Eternalia familiar to anyone? Or maybe Black Swan?

[ The video is really jumpy at first, but after a second it goes steady(ish) and reveals Brianna, looking preeetty excited about the new kid. It looks like she's sitting outside somewhere, judging by the background noise, but she doesn't seem to be on the ground. ]

Well... [ She wants to mention that Tolkien was totally influenced by her kind of elves when creating his own, but it doesn't feel like the right thing to do. ] Kind of like Tolkien's, but not quite. Our ears only go pointy after a few thousand years.

[ She tucks her hair around an ear to show it. It's all round and normal, thank you very much. ]

Also I really couldn't take your clothes, that's just wrong.

Hello, Sophie. I'm afraid Eternalia means little to me, and a black swan is only remarkable to me in that it's a bird that isn't usually that colour, but elves, at least.. [ as if his ears didn't make it pretty apparent. ] Though I imagine that we're from different worlds, as that.. seems to be how it works here.

Elves are cool! [They're always the cutest members of any fantasy adventuring party.] What kinda clothes are you looking for? What's your style! 'Cause wherever you are there's probably a ton of stores selling all kinds of stuff. But not all of them cater to every person's fashion needs!

[Says the girl wearing a knit sweater (covered in a watermelon print) in June.]

[ Wow, pointy ears. Sophie has to remind herself this isn't one of her Ancients, but an elf from other world. ]

I can send you the adress to several shops, if you'd like. And as for elves, there aren't any in my world, but I've met some here; i can't say it was a bad experience, on the on the contrary, actually. why?

[ Sophie actually smiles. Apparently there's more people of her age range around here, which is both good and sort of terrifying. She'll focus on the good for the moment. ]

I'm an elf, but they're different as how people seem to think they are. The ones from my world, they started the legends and ideas of elves in humans, so I was curious to see if people from other worlds had the same ideas the humans from mine do.

[She's talking to Mabel, who is letting out an appreciative ooh!! at the clothing shot.]

It's really cute, though! It's like a better version of what my nerdy brother wears when he plays those weird games. [Plays, gets kidnapped into, whatever.] You should probably try downtown Nonah. They've got a tooon of stores, I bet you can find whatever you want there.

It's just borrowing them, but suit yourself.

[ Breeze raises an eyebrow, more skeptical about the age thing than the elf thing. ]

So you're really thirteen, not like 200-but-you-look-thirteen? [ Because she's not a huge fan of most adults, and wouldn't want to end up befriending one unless she knew upfront. ]

Twenty-four, I'm afraid. [ the smile falters a little. ] I'm afraid my people don't live that long anymore. [ though he's not sure how much he believes about why they lost their immortality. particularly after the well of sorrows. ]

It's nice to meet you, too, Sophie. I see you've already been answered about the clothes issue. [ a beat, lifting his arm to glance down at his shirt-sleeve. ] I find that clothing here isn't made to last, but.. it seems to be what's appropriate to wear, regardless.

I know some shops. Which city are you in?

And I'm afraid elves don't exist in my world, and I haven't heard of Eternalia. And while I've heard of black swans, I doubt the birds are what you're thinking of.

Are you with Santa?

[Not that he was, although maybe being a fairy was close enough. Either way, he was curious, and this was audio, which meant that he couldn't figure it out from looking.

Oh no, elves age until they become adults, then our ears are the only thing that ages...somehow... I'm not sure of the specifics, I'm pretty new to the whole elf thing myself.

Suffice to say, I'm more used to human clothing than anything. It's what I've been wearing most of my life. Elves are all about tunics and capes and cloaks.

[ It's pretty, yeah. It's just not Sophie. A worn out shirt and plain jeans is very much Sophie. ]

Weird games? I'll definitely do... as soon as I figure if they really gave me any money or not.

Wrong elves, but I'm still wondering how did people make that connection. Maybe some elves planted the idea as a joke that got way out of proportion.

I am, but I don't think you would be able to tell just by the way I look.

From the towns to the businesses, there's a lot of wordplay and mythological references in this world. You get used to it after a while. Or buy a book on mythology if they're not the ones your familiar with, which is what I had to do.

I see. I haven't heard of them.

No, it's okay! I guess that's the whole point of being secretive, right? If humans knew everything then the elves would be doing a terrible job.
