Those of you from an alternate Earth, what similarities or differences have you noticed between this world and yours? Specifically, I'm looking to pinpoint where a great deal of our common ground lies, and if there's a trend where most timelines appear to diverge. Discussion encouraged.

As well, if there are any research institutions with room for a theoretical physicist and biologist interested in solving the mysteries of this world, please do get in touch.

Oh. Princess Kareen wouldn't have meant it as much of a compliment.

But yeah. Betans are famously liberal. And the Betan accent does sound sort of like the American accent.

How about you, dude? You share the princess's view?

No. I think Beta Colony is insane in a lot of ways, but they're the closest planet to being decent that I know of.
driftsintobuffetline: (hey!!!)

What!!? I'm offended on Beta's behalf. What makes it insane in any way? They sound awesome.

But...good, dude. Glad you think they're close to decent. Nothing wrong with being liberal.
Where're YOU from anyway? Your accent is different from Miles'.

Every place is insane. That's all.

And I'm from Jackson's Whole.
driftsintobuffetline: (ok...)

Right. Well, can't disagree there.

Jackson's Whole what? Sounds really out in the middle of nowhere. What's it like?

It was an old smugglers' hideout. The smugglers decided they wanted to sound a little more legitimate, so they decided to name themselves Barons instead. So now it's run by competing crime rings who make the laws for everyone who's part of their House. It's very cold there.
driftsintobuffetline: (idk what to call this face)

some of those robber barons need to smuggle in some coats and heaters, clearly.

So are you a baron? How's business?
jacksonian: (stressed the fuck out)

[ A moment before he responds. That response is, perhaps, tellingly terse. ]

No. I wasn't a Baron.
driftsintobuffetline: (well yeah you could do that)

Hey, you got time. You're young. Invest in some real estate and hotels, buy some golf courses, brand everything with your name, pay off some politicians ...you'll be a capitalist baron in no time here.

Or don't. you're way better than that.

Being a Baron isn't the same thing as being rich. It means a lot more than that. It's also not something I have any interest in.
