Those of you from an alternate Earth, what similarities or differences have you noticed between this world and yours? Specifically, I'm looking to pinpoint where a great deal of our common ground lies, and if there's a trend where most timelines appear to diverge. Discussion encouraged.

As well, if there are any research institutions with room for a theoretical physicist and biologist interested in solving the mysteries of this world, please do get in touch.

Which year specifically?

[INSERT CANON YEAR THAT THEY NEVER ACTUALLY STATE IN CANON. Like between 2010 and 2015 b/c there are things that came out in 2013/2014 that they've used on camera and seriously, it's an ambiguous early- to mid-2010's mish-mash of cars and technology-not-usable-but-previously-used shit show, okay.] CDC blew up in late September. Any hope of a cure went with it.

How did the virus start- or spread?

[~~I'm good with that.~~ APPARENTLY! Fear the Walking Dead has the outbreak happening in 2009 and references it as such through some graves being dug and actual dates put on them. Which I have just been informed of by a canon-mate, cause I don't actually watch FtWD.]

Don't know how it started. Ain't sure how it spread, neither. Probably airborn. Or in the water. One of them ones that only affect humans.

Doc at the CDC didn't say. Just showed us how it worked.

When you die, it reactivates the brain stem. Anywhere between a minute and eight hours for it to do it. If you don't take out the brain, then the body gets up and walks. And eats. Whatever it can that's still alive, that's what it's drawn to.

Everyone's infected.

[While Hermann typically prefers text, it seems right to follow suit for this conversation- it looks like it's taking Daryl a fair bit of will to explain.

But that also means Daryl gets to see he's obviously pretty grossed out by the concept, just managing not to shudder]

Hell, I don't know. Porter gives us the power's, don't it? Figure that's what's keeping it from spreadin'. Nanites don't control that.

Well it's the generally accepted theory that the porter that grants us our abilities. Though the nanites do have some link to them, they're better known to be responsible for our apparent regeneration when we die.

[Not something he's keen on testing, but now it's Hermann's turn to look a bit uncomfortable] ..And I do know they possess properties capable of halting the progression of disease, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch.

[Learn something new everyday.]

No, it doesn't shut down the nanites- that would be dangerous for a few reasons. But it does completely strip you of any supernatural abilities.

Virus ain't exactly supernatural. Keepin' it in check is.

The only way to know for a certainty would be to test it.

Newton's a biologist. He'd be able to assess the risks and take the appropriate precautions.

[Daryl shook his head.]

Nah. Only four of us in this world are infected. Porter, powers, or nanites, whatever it is, keeps it in check. Ain't gonna do nothin' to change that.

It gets out and someone dies? They'll get back up and start eating someone else. When it hit my world, it took all of two weeks for shit fall apart. Government bombed the evac sites 'cause they couldn't contain it. Two months after and the CDC blew up cause it ran out of power and the fail safes activated.

Only thing the Porter or whatever the hell it is done right is be able to keep it in check and keep it from spreading.

What was listed in your abilities in that folder you received on arrival? If it was there, it can be suppressed.

The virus wasn't listed.

Daryl looked visibly uncomfortable, suddenly unable to look at the camera and his shoulders hunching.]

But Carl said he hasn't seen signs of it spreading and as far as he knows it gets suppressed so it won't infect anyone accidentally.

[Purses his lips a bit about that, straightening up]

Dr. Geiszler is resistant to most afflictions.
