Those of you from an alternate Earth, what similarities or differences have you noticed between this world and yours? Specifically, I'm looking to pinpoint where a great deal of our common ground lies, and if there's a trend where most timelines appear to diverge. Discussion encouraged.

As well, if there are any research institutions with room for a theoretical physicist and biologist interested in solving the mysteries of this world, please do get in touch.

They've crossed here apparently. Granted, there are no direct pasts or futures to change, so I suppose it only matters on a personal scale. Nothing of use, as seems to be the trend here. Not enough data to draw commonalities.

It can get frustrating. A lot of my own research and understanding has been hampered by port outs. But I can tell you that compared to many of the other Earths, my world did experience the Cold War. It spanned for around forty years or so, but eventually there was a resolution unlike this world. And that seems to be a commonality between many of the alternate versions of Earth.

Yes, so far that seems to be the only thing we have in common. Comforting I suppose, but not quite useful in determining where our timelines diverge.

But perhaps a key as to why we were brought here. The one commonality shared. And it may be worth investigating the anomalies -- the ones from the far distant future or the ones from worlds separate from any version of Earth. Perhaps they, too, experienced a war similar to the Cold War of our Earth that came to an eventual resolution. It would make sense if it was the common denominator as this version of the United States strives toward victory and who better to employ than those who had seen an end to this war already?

If we were brought here for a purpose, I very much doubt it was to put an end to this war. It should have ended in 1991. By the sounds of it, it sounds more like imPorts are part of the reason it's lasted this long. It's outgrown the Cold era. No, I suspect there's far more to this than just this war. The Porter technology needs to be more closely examined.

Do you feel as though imPorts should have access to that porter technology? Beyond simply porting in and out of it, that is?

We should have access to much more information. The porter, nantes, other sorts of data. Obviously the government isn't terribly interested in solving the interdimensional problem. No, they're intent on keeping us here and restricting the information we have to work with. As scientists, it's quite frustrating.

They aren't interested in letting us have access to that information. And likely, they probably will never give us access. So would you think it wrong for imPorts to rise up and find their own way to obtain this information?

Not quite. It is after all, what I'm attempting to do here, although through legal channels. Inefficient perhaps, but I'm not of a mind to be imprisoned.

But what if you met people who were? Would you be glad for the things they uncovered even if they did, say, go about it through illegal means? Not murder, but perhaps spying or uncovering sensitive information by intercepting a signal?

I suppose I couldn't begrudge someone subversive efforts in the interest of gaining information.

You were involved in a great deal of nanite research, weren't you?

Yes, I assisted in their programming a bit. I couldn't tell you much more about them, however. Even Dr. Geiszler hasn't been able to uncover much.

They seem to be such elusive things. I almost wonder if there's a reason we cannot seem to uncover much information about them -- as though they are altering our minds in a way that doesn't allow us to see them with clarity.

[ Raina refuses to believe that as brilliant as the scientists are here, not a single one of them has been able to figure out the full scope of the nanites. ]

I doubt that's the case, but it is possible there's some for of 'enchantment' or defense mechanism that subverts our ability to study them. We'd likely need a number of specialists to consult on the matter in order to have a chance of circumventing the various issues that we're prone to running into.

It is a shame that none of us were really in the mindset to study them when LACKEY shut ours down as a form of punishment for not complying with the Soviet regime. All we know are the effects -- what happens when they are shut off.

But I would like to continue this conversation with you. Perhaps outside of the network. There's something I would especially like to discuss with you and Newton both, if he would be so willing to join us.

That seems ideal. I believe Newton would be interested as well if this conversation follows through as it has so far. What sort of meeting would you have in mind?
