[The communicator is either being carried by someone else, or simply floating after the man. Well dressed in his 1920s best, he is currently perusing the ‘occult’ section of a local public library. There’s a moment of silence as he traces the spine of one book, then simply begins speaking.]
How many tomes are able to be written on a subject this world clearly knows nothing about?
[He idly picks one book off the shelf- Idiot’s Guide To Protection Spells- and smirks as he flips through.]
I was something of a magical scholar- amateur, really- in my younger days. Making the utter absence of new forms to learn about here an understandable disappointment.
[The book is snapped shut, and he finally looks up to smile into the camera.]
If there are any actual witches or wizards listening, I would appreciate a moment of your time. Or, barring that, anyone that has seen magic in their lives. I’ll settle for whatever information this world can manage to scrape together.
---------------
[OOC: Also feel free to action it up in any library your character may be in. Or if you live in 009 MAURTIA FALLS come action at him for earlier/later in the day!]

Um ... We don't have any. Nothing at all. And that's normal, I think.

Unsurprising. Most of my kind are afraid to advertise. They blame history for that.

action;
He decides to apply a new trick he's taught himself with summoning circles to get them to work in reverse - open one up and concentrate, and he can send things through. Small things, and a great deal more concentration than he'd admit, but it works.
In this case, he'd sending through a book, bound in what might be human skin if Graves has the eye for that sort of thing. If John focused and divined properly, the circle should open up in a modest burst of flame and belch out the book near to Graves. Inside are illuminations by hand detailing things like protective spells, exorcisms and other rituals. But first, when he opens the book a hand-written note falls out: ]
You too, huh?
/touches
But it is a very, very good sign. Made all the more exciting by the fact the spell that sent it to him wasn't one he recognized. Nor are many of the actual items in the book.
Hm.
And damn. He attempts a repulsion spell to no avail. It sat low and hot in his stomach, and angry knot, that some of his magic was missing. Like a pinky finger gone. Nothing critical, not that he'd found yet, but enough of a mild annoyance that he can't forget it. It, or the pain those that had taken some of his power were destined to suffer.
Fine. Something else then. He touches his finger to the note and summoned the instrument that had written it. It may take a few minutes, but whatever pen or pencil John used was now flying through the air to him.]

It's Graves' lucky day.]
Finding everything all right? [perfunctory, if still friendly, barely glancing the other wizard's way as he climbs on the Luggage to reach a high shelf.]

[There's a dry humor to it as he watches the man climb on clearly enchanted furniture. A bit of a pointless use of a spell, to his mind, levitation was much more straightforward. Or summoning.
Graves pointed at the book Rincewind had just placed back, and it flew into his hand.]
Are there any actual magical texts in this...establishment?

Oh bugger.
He immediately reached to turn it off only he had no idea how. So instead he lay it face down, intending to ignore it. Only then he turned his back on the blasted thing leaving it and it's lovely shiny case sitting on a work bench.
Which is how the stupid thing came to be turned back over. The images moved quickly, perhaps too quickly to identify glass containers and other bits of bobs that hung about in the shed; bits and bobs that were definitely from the 1928 wizarding world. It passed along shiny black fur and was lifted to a flat, flesh toned beak which set between two brilliant dark eyes.
The Niffler snuffled at the device, unsure about this side. He liked the other side better and so turned it around, giving the video a nice solid view of a wooden work bench. ]
What have you got ... oh, oh no ... NO. Give it back!
[ And with a quickness the video feed disappeared into the Niffler's pouch. The sound of a chitter and scurrying feed, with Newt's muffled cursing in the background, before there was a jolt, a thump and more scurrying. The chase was on. ]

lmk if this doesn't work for you!
So she just is there the next morning in the kitchen, waiting, having skirted the gigantic snake habitat in the living room and taken a seat at the kitchen table. Dressed in black jeans and a purple sweater, with a mug of coffee and a half-eaten plate of pancakes, tapping away on her communicator, she does not look much like a home-invader. Still, when she hears someone approaching the room she sits up a little straighter and the first thing she says is: ]
Hi, I'm the new housemate. Kate Bishop.
