004 ➳ Semi-Accidental Video
[The post was supposed to be voice only and private to Newton. But Daryl wasn't in a state of mind to be careful when he clicked the feed on and sent it live. The mistake was likely obvious to anyone watching, however, as the camera was angled in an awkward manner where Daryl could glance at the screen and see what was on it, but not so it really got a good view of anything but the tops of his knees, his face beyond them, the edge of the bed past that, and then the ceiling of his bedroom.
The ravens he'd adopted a few months ago were hopping around trying to get his attention, to get him to play, but having little luck past him slowly pulling his head to one side so his hair was tugged out of their beaks or his hand slowly petting a feathered body that got pushed up under it. He looked like he'd mentally checked out at some point and was only going through the motions.
He sounded like it, too. Voice dull and nearly emotionless. Like a part of him had broken and he'd just shut down.]
Mako left this mornin'. Early. Ain't sure if she'll be back in time for the wedding.
['Left' meaning the world and him with the port out, not the house. He figured he didn't need to be that specific though.]

C'mon, you can't tell me there isn't anything. How about something to eat?
[Because he didn't look well. He looked like was taking it harder than she could, which she could understand since she could sense their connection from day 1.]
no subject
But the ravens were another matter. Normally he went out with them before sunrise and they'd clean up the kills he made for them if it wasn't a day he needed to take care of himself. That hadn't happened yet.
She could probably help with that. She was a survivor.]
Okay.
no subject
First, though.]
Anything specific in mind? Or are you okay with anything I choose? [Speak up now or forever hold your peace.]
no subject
[He nods toward the raven sitting perched on his knee and now trying to tear at the hole in his jeans. The other one had moved to the bed and was slowly walking down it's length behind his head, clearly considering the best angle of approach to get back on his shoulder and/or tug at his hair some more.]
Needs to be dead. Fresh. Something they can pick at once it's cut open. Coupla rats or squirrels'll do.
no subject
Rats and squirrels? You sure there isn't anything I can pick up at the pet store?
no subject
[He caught the shudder and after a beat added on.]
You don't gotta be the one to kill 'em.
no subject
Yeah, okay. That sounds easier than trying to catch rats or squirrels. How many should I get?
[Maybe she'll even buy one or two more for Timmy as a treat.]
no subject
[At least the kind they sold in pet stores as snake food.]
no subject
Anything else? [she gives him a last chance look sort of look, seeing if she can get him to think of anything else he wants. you know, for himself this time.]
no subject
Nah.
[Nothing for him. He'd be fine. Eventually.]
no subject
I'll be there soon.
Action
When Enid shows up, Daryl's already moved to the living room. He was sitting in the chair furthest from the door, legs still drawn up like they had been before. The twins getting a modicum more attention than they had previously, but not by much. It was hard for Daryl to do much of anything when he was like this. Especially when he had nothing pressing to be doing.]
Re: Action
Tossing the cigarettes over without warning to free up her hands, she sets down her grocery bag and holds up the box containing the mice requested and a few extra for the cat. Little scratching and squeaking noises can be heard from inside.]
That's for you, and this is for them.
Action
Warn a person. Jesus.
[The anger doesn't go away, but it simmers down in the next moment as the twins start cawing loudly. Drawing his attention to them.]
The fuck you yellin' at me for? She's the one throwin' things.
[He grumbled at them as he opened the pack and pulled a stick out. Wasn't really safe to smoke it around them, though, so he just fingered it for a bit before putting it away. Then he held his hand out for the box.]
Give 'em here. Gotta kill 'em and cut 'em open.
Action
She meets his stare with a slight shrug, ignoring the anger directed at her and glancing at the cawing ravens.]
Had to do something to get your attention.
[She nods and places the box into his hands when he holds them out.]
I bought a few extra for Timmy but you don't have to kill those if you don't wanna. [She can just release them and allow her cat to hunt and kill them naturally if he has no complaints about her letting mice out in or near the house. Timmy was a good hunter so she wasn't worried herself.]
Should I ...uh, get something for you to cut them on?
Action - trigger warning for death of mice if anyone's following this
He leaned forward and set the body on the coffee table, drawing the attention of the lil'shits. They hopped over as he cut it down the middle of the stomach and pulled it open. Blood started spilling out immediately, but it was a cheap ass coffee table so he didn't care. Once the first was set out for them, he leaned back again and fingered the box a bit.]
He a mouser or he just like to chase 'em but don't know what to do with 'em once he caught him?
^ same warning applies
I think he is a bit of both. Likes to catch them and eat them, or give them as gifts.
[If there was ever a mouse on your bed, Daryl, or maybe a time your ravens mysteriously found a free mouse to eat, that's why.]
