[YURI REJECTS ALL FORMS OF GOVERNMENT, OKAY. THEY ARE ALL CORRUPT.]
You might try accepting what you are given with a little more grace, however. As well, there are other reasons besides handouts to register. You might try considering those lest you miss out on something that could be useful.
Text
[Figures.]
i have plenty of grace, i'm not telling them any of this
useful like what
Text
[So there. That's your answer.]
Do you forget that this is a public forum? [Sigh.] In any case, Registered peoples find themselves favored, with more privileges offered them.
[And accesses to information.]
Text
Что ЭТО значит?
[What's THAT mean? This guy is such a weirdo. The hippie hair strikes again.]
Come on, do they really have time to read everything we say, don't they have real threats to track
what kind of privileges?
Text
[I have no taste for politics, that is what it means. And GDI, stop picking on his hair. At least it's under control unlike a certain teenager's!]
No, I don't think they do, but I wouldn't put it past them to have a way of scanning for words that might alert them to topics of potential interest. Much like the way companies scan documents to fight plagiarism or search for ideal applicants for jobs. The written word can be extremely incriminating.
[He would know.]
Arms privileges, for one.
Text
[Truth and justice? It sounds so hokey, even more so in Russian. And HEY, the humidity here is out of control, you don't even know. He stares at Yuri's words for a few seconds.]
your saying we should be careful what we put in type
like telling a minor he can pack heat
CAN i pack heat?
Text
[Where I come from, my job consists of the administration of justice in the courts. So you see, truth and justice are of paramount importance to me, and easily warped political views mean very little at all. Look at him, Jayden. Does it look like he cares about hokey? Also, climate control conditioner. It's a thing. Use it.]
Only with strict supervision.
[Yes, that was his idea of a bad joke. Did you get your hopes up?]
Text
Text
so your a lawyer?
SORRY you're*
and the grammar police apparently
[And yes, Yuri, you did get his hopes up. He's supposed to be a HERO, right? He's not sure if he's being fucked with, but it doesn't hurt to check.]
haha sure how do i sign up for that
Text
A judge. And educated.
[Smartass kid.]
I could be mistaken, but I believe that opportunities for training are made available after the swear-in ceremony takes place.
[Honestly, the idea of children with weapons isn't as disturbing to him as it might be to others. A side-effect of having grown up in a world where NEXT come into their powers at a very young age.]
Text
[At least he's using the correct "your." And he can't help being curious. It's hard to picture, someone like Yuri, in judge robes, deciding the fates of criminals.]
it takes a long time to become a judge, right?
[As for the weapons:]
i guess i'll find out about it then
Text
[Typed like you actually needed his permission.]
Becoming a judge is a lengthy process, it is true, but for me it was the only career path I wished to take. If you believe in such things, you might consider it a calling.
[And it was, more or less. Decided for him at a very early age by the ideals his father instilled in him and the betrayal later committed by that same father...there simply was no other path Yuri could have walked.]
Don't shoot yourself in the foot. By which I mean you have a bad habit of gesticulating profusely and it could be dangerous on a shooting range.
Text
[So he does have a sensor of humor. Jayden respects that.]
i was thinking of going into engineering. it's what my dad did, before we moved to america. [And he's not sure why he's telling you this. Maybe it's impressive, this weirdo Russian guy making it all the way to judge.] not sure the government here's going to fund my college tuition tho so who knows
[And HEY, how do you know he wouldn't be totally responsible with a firearm?]
i'm so glad you have faith in me
Text
[Anyway.]
That is a valid career path. I don't see why your tuition wouldn't be funded...unless, of course, you weren't a diligent student.
[And with you, Jayden, it's really hard to tell if you'd work hard or slack off.]
Ask yourself: if I genuinely thought you couldn't handle the responsibility, would I have informed you of the opportunity in the first place?
Text
hey now i'm in national honor society thank you very much
[He's a rather diligent student, actually. He knows all about the path to a good future.]
idk where i come from you have to pay for college
like a lot for college
student loans here i come
just wondering if it was the same here
[And hold on, was that actually a compliment? Jayden thinks it might be. He shouldn't feel proud but hey, hippie hair Yuri doesn't seem like the type to dole that out lightly.]
ok well i won't let you down chief
Text
Are you really? [Jayden, your tendencies are so bipolar it isn't funny.] That isn't something I would have guessed immediately.
In any event, I haven't inquired about the schooling system here, so it might be wise for you to ask at the ceremony if you get the chance. Hopefully there will be some form of support offered to imPort students.
Text
you think i'm just a punk ass cause i don't speak your weird old-timey russian or what
i'll be sure to bring it up
very politely
i can do that you know, my parents taught me manners
Text
And here I thought you were raised in a barn.
Text
That's more disappointing than it should be.]
i just thought i could be honest with you
if not tell me and i'll stop
Text
[That wasn't Yuri's intention. In fact, he hadn't even considered it a possibility before now, and for that he's truly sorry. That's the trouble with unspoken codes, however, particularly when one of the people in question doesn't socialize often enough with other Russians (or at all) for assumed solidarity to ever be a concern.]
I only meant what I said in jest. Truthfully, you are equipped with far better manners than most of the people I work with.
And I would not ask you to refrain from being honest. Not ever.
Text
sorry, sometimes its hard to tell if you're being serious over text
thanks tho
Text
[A beat, and then the following is sent afterwards...]
To answer your question, however...no, I do not think that lowly of you. Quite simply put, you do not demonstrate in casual conversation the enthusiasm for learning expected of an honors student. This is not a complaint, only an observation.
Text
[Then a pause in between replies, as he tries to parse the meaning of THAT statement.]
wait are you saying i don't sound smart
i could throw out some SAT words in casual conversation i guess but i don't want to come off as a pretentious douche
i like keeping it real
i hope you don't sentence people based on that logic
"he sounds like a criminal – 20 years minimum"
Text
Perhaps you should ask yourself why you continue to see insult in that.
