I'm not going to waste time asking if there is a way off this backwater planet, it doesn't seem as if anyone has managed something so basic thus far. I don't understand why the natives of this planet seem to be proud of themselves as if this planet is something special despite being so primitive.

But it seems as I am stuck here for the foreseeable future so tell me what this planet has to offer, I'm curious to know.

[When he's done writing he switched to video but all that can be seen is a sheet with neatly written, very premise, Aurebesh symbols written on it-

[Her description catches his attention, there are only a few inhabited planets which have been destroyed and he's responsible for most of them.

Which planet was that? Several planets have been destroyed in the last thirty years. [The droid he had spoken to earlier was from Scarif, what are the odds that there would be someone else from Scarif here? The last thing he needed was to encounter someone from Hosnian Prime, that was not a headache he wanted to deal with even if he wasn't ashamed of what he had done.]

Powers?

[He had seen his file, he wasn't thrilled having these new powers but he was curious to find what others had experienced with them.]

Yes. Some seem to have come in with them from their previous life. Others acquire them upon arrival. They .. seem to vary, from person to person. Some apparently can be dangerous, others mildly inconvenient.

A few. [There is no emotion in his voice, he's rather proud of his work.]

Scarif is a wasteland now after a rebel attack. A great deal was lost during that battle, years of research some of which was never recovered.4

[Because the research was the important bit there.]

What kind of powers did you get, if you don't mind me asking?

Mostly happens at flashbacks of the other person. Guess the intensity of them transmits them over or something. But they're sometimes random.

[Oh, an Imperial guy with the ability to destroy things. How original. How quaint. How wholly unsurprising.]

Pyrokinesis? You can set things on fire?

Are you able to read someone's memories over the network or does it have to be in person?

[He misses his star destroyer and superweapon, setting things on fire is only a small consolation.]

So it seems. I have no doubt it will be an interesting ability to have. And useful.

Seems to be more frequently in-person than over the network. Suppose it has something to do with proximity.

I'm not concerned with anyone else comprehending such accomplishments, it rarely happens. What matters is being confident in one's own abilities, is it not?

We don't exist in a vacuum. The world doesn't consist of only us with nothing around us.

Confidence is good, but not at the expense of the world we live in and the people in it.

I agree, it's always ideal to use your talents to improve the lives of others if possible. I'm certain that's how the galaxy will remember my particular accomplishments.

[Blowing up five planets counts, right? Right.]

Absolutely. I'm getting a real 'I donate to charity' and 'I feel bad for stray animals' sort of vibe from you. [K r i f f, when will she stop running into delusive Imperial sympathizers? When?]

All that and I even restored peace. Everything I do is in service for everyone in the galaxy.

You sound like a real altruistic, giving, selfless sort of person. [Is he really not getting the sarcasm dripping from every word? .. Is he that self-centered that he could think she's being serious?] There've been plenty of criminals who've said the same thing, you know.

I agree, I've heard rebels saying the same things and perhaps even some even mean well or convince themselves of that, but what matters is the end result they are seeking.

Some would argue that they're merely trying to keep the galaxy's freedom. That they're trying to do what is right. [Of course, Jyn has a very complicated relationship with both the Empire and the Rebellion; in her mind, they're mostly as bad as each other in a lot of respects. But she dislikes the Empire far more than she could ever dislike the Rebellion.] But just about anything could probably be made to sound appealing if worded properly, like .. maintaining order throughout the galaxy, or instilling fear in order to achieve peace.

I work towards the same goal- freedom from chaos, war, corruption. Of course, sometimes fear and tyranny are where we have to start but the alternatives are worse. I don't think anyone wants the Clone Wars or the civil war to happen again.

The Republic failed, it always confused me why anyone would want to bring back such a corrupt and failing system of government when it didn't work the first time. So, I put a stop to that, naturally. It won't happen again.

The alternatives to fear and tyranny are worse? You don't think those two things had a hand in the Clone Wars and the civil war? [She openly scoffs.] Yes, and I'm sure there were many before you who also said the same exact thing. And it doesn't take much to figure out that, whenever you threaten a people's way of life and their freedom, there will be those that rise up against you.

You would be surprised how many systems were glad for the stability the Empire brought, especially after they had suffered from the Clone Wars and a corrupt Republic.

And they will be silenced. The Rebellion is over, I ended it.

I'm sure they all told you that to your face, yes, especially when threatened with execution and/or imprisonment if they'd said otherwise.

Ended it? How many times has the Empire convinced itself of that? I've no doubt it kept going long after I'd been brought here.

If believing that makes you feel better about your doomed cause, who am I to take that away from you?

I did what Palpatine and Grand Moff Tarkin didn't have the ability or will to do. So yes, I'm fairly certain it's ended. It was satisfying burning away the rot that was the Rebel Alliance.

You keep calling it my cause. It wasn't. I'd only joined up at the end.

And what was that, exactly? How can you be so sure you've destroyed it?

It doesn't matter when you joined up, you're still associated with them.

Oh, I'm certain. The entire galaxy saw it clearly, as well. No one survived.

What - what is it that you're speaking of specifically? I wouldn't know, since it's after my time.

You will know eventually. The explosion was seen throughout the galaxy, it was a shining example of the power of the Empire.
