It's weird to think that maybe this Earth could turn out like the one from my universe. Or timeline. Or however it works...
(I'm not really smart about all this, I'm sorry...)

But there's a lot that's similar. Even on the planet I lived on, and all the ones in the galaxy, we all use the same clock system, even though some days are longer or shorter depending on which planet you landed on. Same 24 hour clock. And this Earth uses one, too. And there's baseball and hovercars and the moon landing was about the same time (I think)...

So I wonder how long it will take for this Earth to leave the planet, if it will. Or maybe it won't because it won't make the same mistakes the Earth in my history did. Or maybe they WILL but they'll decide to do something differently. Maybe because people like us are here it's already changed how things will go. Maybe because I'm here the railways from my world can show, and maybe because someone else is here, something from their history will happen? IS that already happening?

It's also weird that I can think about all this without trying when I'm TRYING to study something else...

The first people to leave your world were criminals?

That seems...how were they able to create that level of technology without the support of their government?

Haha well there's lots of wild stories, so I couldn't tell you what's the truth.
The most famous was about Captain Harlock and his pirate ship Arcadia, which pillaged the first few colonial ships the government sent out for resources. Some people called him a menace, but lots of people still admire him.
He sure showed how foolish the government was at that time, I can admit that much...

Were those resources needed by people on earth?

Yeah. Definitely. Back then, the rich starved out the poor and made them work to find more wealth and goods... All that stuff funneled out to people who didn't need it.
That's what my dad said anyway. It was a long time ago...

Were they eventually overthrown?

Yeah.
Most people have left Earth and now everyone is connected by the railway. That's where I work. Everyone is taken care of, nobody is left behind if I can help it.
It's not perfect, but lots of good people are working hard to make things better!
That's what I hope to help with here...

Yeah!
It starts out on iron rails on land, then once the train exits the atmosphere, the rail becomes a series of gates that guide the trains to the next station. You can go planet to planet on it. It's really cool.
Did you have anything like that where you're from?

The Midgar continent has a railway system, yes.
But it is restricted to Midgar and Junon.

We have only sent one rocket into space.

So a little behind things here huh...
Then it feels a lot different here?

Technologically it is about ten years behind.
Our space program suffered from a series of budgetary cutbacks they do not seem to have suffered here.

My world was somewhat different in that we only had one primary government.
And they were just a corporation.
So only things they funded moved forward.

Are people OK?

The Shinra were overthrown recently.
People are...

I think that sounds good...hopeful at least. I'm glad to hear it.

I observed a remarkable amount of chaos in the ensuing months.
Which makes sense, really.
People did not remember how to live outside of the Shinra's control.
But thinking about it, most basic services continued to function.
I suppose people just kept doing what was habit.

I guess so. If it's easy and familiar, it's hard to break a habit, even a bad one.
I hope your country finds its footing again, so people can be freer.

As to your question.
Given the technology here, I can't imagine they will be leaving their planet to any noticeable degree any time soon.

It's kind of a good thing maybe? I mean people left Earth where I'm from because of bad times. Things aren't so bad here that anyone's had to fly off like that...
