[Isaac initializes the video remotely, and when it comes on, it's clear something has probably gone amiss with whatever he was trying to accomplish. He has the bottom half of an EVA suit on and is pulling on the top half as the video commences. He doesn't look precisely impressed when he looks over to the communicator.]

So, these powers aren't as easy as they sound. [He pulls on the top of the suit and fastens it around his chest, heaving a sigh as he does so.]

Anybody else having any trouble with the powers the Porters have you? How are you practicing? [He figures just learning focus should be enough, but who's counting?] Personally, I think they should have come with an instruction manual.

[Still looking a little perturbed, he moves over to the communicator and picks it up.]

Speaking of instruction manuals, does anyone know where I can get, I don't know, a textbook or something on the fundamentals of "modern" structural engineering? It's...the job they gave me, but I'm a Ship Engineer. I don't build buildings...especially not with...the tools available around here. [And what is the internet? Seriously. We haven't used anything like that in nearly five hundred years.] It'd be a big help.

Well, in my experience, powers don't really have manuals. It's all about experimentation. [ A pause. ]

But, engineering is a little easier. Structural engineering is actually pretty close to what I do.

Is that suit something that you crafted yourself?

I don't even know where to start? The structural technology in this world is about 500 years before mine.

[That's the first thing he pays attention to about this post, anyway, but then a Thought occurs to him. He points to that suit with one finger.]

[Because. He still sure does have a wrecked suit he needs fixed.....]

I improved on the original design a lot, but it started out a standard EVA suit. Why?

Uh, deep space mining vessels, mostly. Why? [A chuckle.] Need me to build you one?

Oh hm, I came in with the same set of powers I had in my world. I haven't even considered people coming in with new powers.

Training or an instruction manual would be nice, but it doesn't seem like the powers we get are all the same here. So you might be out of luck on that part. Would training facility help at all?

Well, I could try to come up with some suggestions, but without knowing what your power is, it's hard to figure out what kind of exercises to suggest! It probably works a little differently for everyone. [She presses the tips of her fingers together, eyes drifting upward as she thinks.] Mm, like for mine, I need to visualize things, so I've been trying out different shapes...

They're unpredictable at first. It's different for everyone. Practice usually is needed.

Are you having trouble, Mr. Clarke?! What sort of abilities did they stick you with? Myself, I only ever picked up what I know through plenty of practice, it's not at all simple to know how you're supposed to manage a whole new change to your body, not at this stage of our lives! An instruction manual would have been very useful. What's the trouble for you?

[ But he's impressed. ]

Easy off the coffee, Nelson. [Because seriously. Breath.] I can manifest my suit, which is how I did this. [A pause.] Speak for yourself. I'm not classifying myself as old, yet.

Really, there's far too much diversity of abilities to expect any kind of standardized approach to them, especially given that they hadn't been supplied to us by those who informed you of their existence.

You're lucky on that, in fact. Before arriving, we weren't given any kind of outline of what these abilities are. You simply had to guess from the manifestation. [ congratulations, isaac, you just got back-in-my-day'd by someone half your age. ]
