[Well, someone's calmed down from his last little speech on the network. In fact, this time he's not even upset about something--well, not in that way, anyway. He does seem a bit perplexed, though, sitting at his desk in his room while idly writing something down on a notebook (which was something he'd just gotten used to. Everything was typed where he was from. For once, he's out of that military gear and in what looks like a baggy t-shirt with an owl on it.]

Citizens of Heropa. I'm sorry to bother you so late at night, but I was hoping you could answer some questions for me.

I've been seeing things lately, just occasionally little glows around everyone I've talked to. It's not often, but it's definitely getting more frequent with the more people I talk to.

[A hand goes to his chin, thinking this over.]

According to my file, one of my powers is aura sensing. Which...would make sense, given what I've been experiencing. But it's still pretty confusing to me.

[He'll cut right to the chase.] I need to see what these different glows mean. Going around guessing isn't going to get me anywhere.

So I'm asking for your help. Can you all tell me something you like, and something you hate? A food, an activity, anything. Any kind of story would be encouraged, so I could see a wide range of these. I have two goals here--[and two fingers go up.]

I want to see if it works over the feed, and the range I'm dealing with here.

[And because he promised he'd work on friendship...]

Can you sense auras over the network or does it have to be in person?

Oh, that's interesting! What do they look like?

[He squints slightly, as if looking to see that just now. There's a faint glow, but it's dim, almost too dim to see the colour of it...only barely making it out.]

It's visible here. Although not as strong as in person.

Right now...mostly colours.

[And he squints a bit, as while he's learning these do work over the feed, it's much less obvious on what it is.]

I think I see a light pink around you...

Really? [ he looks a little delighted, and... off-screen, waves his hand a little. a glowing blue light sort of mists in around him. ] What about now, still pink?

[Maybe there's even two because Al is both a soul and a suit of armor. Being over the network probably doesn't help either.]

You should try asking some people to see you in person so you can look at it every way possible.

Auras? [What in the world are those?] I'd love to help, though you'll have to elaborate the nature of auras to me. Just something glowing around people?

[That'd make two of you, Hope.]

To be honest, I'm not certain on what exactly it is myself. My file wasn't all that in-depth on it. It's some sort of glow that I can see around you, but the type of glow changes, or looks different.

Not exactly the most helpful thing in the world, is it...

[The pen taps against his chin, though.]

Sometimes they look alike, sometimes they don't--maybe there's a theme to it all.

[He squints, slightly, looking into the feed.]

It's faint, but I see a white one around you. White or light pink.

[For a moment, his eyes widen, looking closer into the feed. Did it just--wait..the pink's still slightly there.

Have a quirked eyebrow.]

Even more pink.

[You little shit.]

Good idea...It'd be easier to read than just over the feed.

[Which begs the question.]

Are you free, Al? Maybe you could be my first test subject.

[Because as much as he tries to make it out, there's definitely something about this that's off.]

Yeah? [ He snorts, amused, and the blue fades out again. ] Alright, I'm impressed. So, you think it has something to do with what we're thinking about?

[You high priests and your magic spells.]

I've got a few theories, actually! I thought I'd see which aligns the best with them and base it off that. It could be related to the person itself, their emotions, or just aesthetic.

[ he nods ]

Alright, well, I'm your guinea pig if you want one! What was it... tell you something I like, right?

... Oh. [That really doesn't help much, especially to a mind as demanding as his. He needs more to go on, but it cant be helped when both parties have absolutely no idea.]

[He cant see a glow about him, obviously, so that means something beyond the physical. More than the kind Hope knows anyway. And what in the world do white and pink mean? His hair color? Lightning's hair color?]

You say the glow around someone changes, and some are not alike. Perhaps the colors have some sort of meaning or connection to the individual?

Aura sensing's a power now? Huh. Apparently there's a bunch of new age peaceniks I misjudged.

Alrighty, okay. Uhhh...what I really like isssss a ton of food. A huge amount of food, as much as I can eat, like Chicken Whizzies and soft pretzels and burgers, pizza, green bean casserole, corn on the cob, pancakes, sausage and bacon oh my god bacon. Lots of food.

[A warm smile spreads. Man, you are doing just wonders for this bot being a stick in the mud.]

Exactly. Maybe talking about something you're interested in will make the glow more vivid--or even change.

[As Hope thinks on it, Metalhawk seems to be studying it. There's a couple of changes here and there, the intesity and saturation of it, mostly. A flicker of a different colour, which supports one of his theories.

That's a good thought. I should make a chart of some kind and see if I can find any similarities...some kind of pattern. Colours, intensity...anything.

[Wow Wally, you're pretty much a beacon right now to him. His eyes widen in both amazement at just WHAT the kid eats and and at the glow. It's a bright royal blue right now.]

Well, I have a feeling you're going to be a very reliable person to help me with this.

[Because wow, sir.]

[ He sits back, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. ]

We had this thing called War of Empirium, in my world. Essentially, twice a week it's all-out warfare between guilds as they struggle to capture a castle. People really let loose, too! It can get brutal in there — I think half the people there don't even care if they get a castle, they're just in it for the fight. [ such a fond smile as he remembers all the delightful bloody fights :') ] It takes a lot of teamwork and cohesion to get anywhere in there, and if you go alone someone will probably flatten you the second you walk in. [ an appreciative chuckle goes here ] The paintball games kind of reminded me of that, so I'm really sorry I missed them!

[ a beat, then: ] How's that?

[Wally comes back in about ten with a bunch of sandwich fixings stacked around him and his comm propped up against a jar of mayonnaise. He's assembling a monster sandwich.]

Something I hate is uhhh...when people use terms like "magic" or "unexplained phenomena" and other cop-out excuses to get out of really investigating and experimenting with hypotheses to find out a real answer. [He really, REALLY hates not understanding stuff, is basically what he's trying to say.]

Aura sensing. Can you see these auras through things? Through walls, for example?

[Because that's the only way this ability isn't completely useless.]

Also, what color is mine?

[Even if it's useless, he's curious.]
