I've been trying to find ways to relax. I'm not really any good at it. Just came back from being at sea for two weeks, isolated from society. It was extremely pleasant.
[ and around this point there some links to show photographs he had taken. all very pleasant... if you ignore the starfish eating a fish at the end. ]
Now I'm back and I find myself lost in society and its stresses. I work 12 hour days and sleep about 6 to 7. Research is my only outlet, my field being in Marine Biology. That and watching too much true crime dramas, but watching serials about betrayal and murder might not be a healthy way of de-stressing. Allegedly.
So I'm fielding suggestions. I'm sure you're all a very calm and collected bunch who can be of help.
[ ... ]
On an unrelated note: fish don't smoke. And never will. Evolution doesn't work that way.
[ callout because that's just one of his recent stresses. ]

but okay what about...
[He's got ideas. He does. Maybe.
It's just that everything he'd want to do is stuff that he can't really imagine Jotaro doing. Crap, this is harder than he thought it would be...]
um what about listening to music? or taking up handicraft work or something
[Or both. Simultaneously.
Josuke doesn't doubt Jotaro knows some good music, he's cool enough. But he's also antisocial enough (with an eye for detail) that something artsy could be a good way to destress, too.]

[ three stands-- ]
I've been thinking about making those model boats in bottles. It seems to be both time consuming and mind numbing.
no subject
model boats, though? i guess that DOES sound like something you'd do
[But he's not helping you get the boat in the bottle.]
no subject
[ jotaro, meanwhile, is all about stewing in anger over the past because why process trauma like a healthy person?? but hey you do you josuke. ]
If you come over and you see a lot of them, you're not allowed to crack any bad jokes.
no subject
you inviting me over, jotaro-san?
[Absolutely not ignoring the statement about bad jokes. It's just that his jokes are great, thank you.]
no subject
In all seriousness, you should. There are things to discuss.
no subject
Honestly, as ominous as it sounds, that little bit of familiarity is a comfort to Josuke. It's not unlike when Jotaro showed up in Morioh. This is a pattern he knows.
...which means that he probably shouldn't be too relaxed. Jotaro didn't have good news the first time. He probably doesn't now, either.]
sure, i just need an address
[It'll take him a bit to work it out, of course. American addresses aren't anything like Japanese ones. But he's not above asking people for directions if it comes to that.]
no subject
[ and through a private filter, he messages his address. a government single housing in heropa. ]
I'll be home until early evening. Come by whenever you want.
[ ...he should decide if he wants to dig up that roomba he has in the closet and have the turtle riding on it. that might be too mean for today though. especially because he's almost certain by this point that josuke doesn't have any memory of being here before. ]
Action!
Or what he hoped was Jotaro's front door. The house number was right, anyway.]
no subject
and, despite himself, a small smile does tug its way onto his mouth. it's been months since he last his uncle after all. ]
Remember to take your shoes off.
[ he turns away, hoping josuke didn't notice his expression and makes his way inside. it's plainly decorated, some pictures of the sea, boats and airplanes hung on the wall, but very clean and doesn't look lived in. ...granted that's because he spends more time at work than home. ]
no subject
Which makes it a relief when he was finally admitted inside. Of course, even despite Jotaro's reminder, Josuke had already begun to slip off his shoes and nudge them neatly up against the wall. There were some habits that were so ingrained into him by his mother and his grandfather both, and that was one of them.
Another habit was his own, but had been fine tuned by Jotaro himself, and that was the practice of examining his surroundings closely. The older man's home didn't look very lived in, but then again...that seemed typical of someone as busy as Jotaro.]
Nice place.
[And then, remembering his manners, Josuke quickly added with a casual but still respectful bow of his head...]
Thank you for having me over.
no subject
My fridge is empty last I checked. You can get yourself water... we might be here a while.
[ there's a lot to talk about and a lot he's going to have to condense to the important points. mostly he just wishes this conversation didn't need to happen. ]
no subject
[Not really thirsty, Josuke shook his head politely and took a seat opposite his nephew at the table. The clutter didn't seem to bother him. His room back home occasionally wound up in a worse state. At least Jotaro's appeared to be work-related and not the result of indulging in far too many magazines to keep track of.]
So, um...what's this all about?
no subject
[ by now he knows josuke has lost his memories, but has he also been returned any possessions he would have originally had? now that they're face to face and he's getting a better look... josuke even looks a little younger than he did months ago. is it just memories that are lost through the porter, or even more? ]
no subject
Josuke reluctantly pulled his wallet out from his back pocket, all the while wondering if this was Jotaro's way of making him sweat. Could this have possibly been about the money he swiped from his old man using that photo of his mom?
He'd just been taking a little back allowance for himself...]
Looks like it's still there.
[All in one piece now thanks to Crazy Diamond.]
no subject
but more to the point-- ]
The last time I saw you, you had told me you lost it. You were very upset by the fact. [ jotaro even went through the effort to have star platinum draw an illustration from memory as best as possible. not a replacement, but it was something. ] But, I suppose you don't remember that moment do you, Josuke?
no subject
Unless he was here.
Except that couldn't be what Jotaro meant, could it? He'd remember being someplace like this, so far away from Morioh. Not just a whole continent away, but a whole world, too...
Although it would explain some of the things he had overheard people say in passing.
Tucking his wallet away again, Josuke shook his head.]
Sorry. [He wanted to believe the older man was just pulling his leg, but he knew better.] Doesn't sound familiar at all.
no subject
Josuke, the last time I saw you wasn't in Morioh. It was in this world, at the end of June a few months ago. At the time, our positions were reverse what they are now. ...I know it's not pleasant to hear, but I need to be upfront with you - the last time I saw you, you were already 18 years old.
no subject
For a moment, Josuke wished he'd taken Jotaro up on that water. Anything to keep his hands busy right now would have been nice.]
So you're telling me you were here before, too? And you didn't remember? What the hell kinda place is this?
no subject
[ and, it's weird, very much so. but he's learned to live with the knowledge and try not to let it weigh on his mind too heavily. he's... well not very different, if he's being honest, but he's not quite the same delinquent with a chip on his shoulder. nowadays he actually pays for his food regardless of if he liked it or not (though he will stiff on the tip if the service is crap.) ]
I've come to the conclusion that thinking too hard about it will only lead to headaches. Well, you've always been good at rolling with the punches. [ just another one of those joestar things - shit happens and you deal with it. ] There will undoubtedly be people here who remember you though, and that will be the hard part. imPorts are aware this could happen, but... well, think how you would feel if a friend of yours suddenly didn't remember you? You might get reactions like that.
[ the hard part is there is no way for jotaro to really know how many people josuke was connected to. how many of them are here or not, and it's a little too invasive even for his standards to go through that. ]
no subject
[Really, it's about all that he can do. That and try and find those people, reach out to them, maybe. It might come as a bit of a shock to know he's returned and he's not as they remember him, but maybe he can soften that blow by letting them know he doesn't want to cut anyone out of his life? If they want to try and be his friend still...he's willing to try.]
no subject
[ because, he's not good at being... well sensitive, or comforting, but he hopes this doesn't rattle josuke too hard. and he's trying this new thing? called not being a total hardass. he's not doing great with it so far, but hey. ]
no subject
And that's why he's able to smile and nod after a moment, overwriting the serious expression of a moment earlier.]
Yeah, don't worry. I'll figure it out.
[He appreciated Jotaro's concern and even his advice, but it was his problem. Something like this, that wasn't a matter of life or death, he didn't want to trouble the older man with. He could sort through it on his own and figure out what to do next.]
Thanks for letting me know what to expect, but...that's not the only thing you wanted to talk about, is it?
no subject
[ josuke may have forgotten, but he won't. and if they lived in an ideal world, he wouldn't involve him at all because it's his problem more than anyone else's. but the world isn't ideal. ]
His name is Dio Brando. Stay away from him.
no subject
[Josuke sat upright. He remembered that name at least.
But wasn't he...?
No matter. Jotaro may have never spoken much about the other Stand user, but from what little he had said after they'd immobilized Angelo, he knew the guy was trouble. If the older man was issuing a warning, it was best to heed it.]
I take it he found out when I was here before?
[It was weird feeling wanting to punch his past-future self.]
