[ do you know how to cope with being murdered in some haunted house by some creepy omnious voice talking to you? You don't sleep and decide to drown in work. That's obviously what you should do. That's obviously what kaneki is doing.

When Kaneki comes to the screen he is wearing glasses and is surrounded by books and two computer screens, and he looks like he hasn't slept in years (because, let's be honest, he hasn't). He will get right to the point when the video feed starts, offering a small smile and a bow of his head ]

Hello. I wish to bring something to you today. Years ago, an imPort by the name of Kate Bishop started a FAQ, with the idea to give every imPort the information they needed about this world and their situation. It was a good idea, but once she was ported out, this FAQ became out of date and it hasn't been updated in years. I wish to bring it back and follow what Miss Bishop wanted to do. I already have her FAQ, which I'll be adapting and updating but given two years have passed since it was written, I think it's necessary to add what today's imPorts want to know and worry about.

That's why I'm making this post. If you have any question you want to see in this FAQ, go ahead and ask. I'll be adding them to the document. And of course, share the document once it's ready.

Do Terrorist-san's not need to sleep? That sounds like a terrible ability.

I think most creatures need to sleep. [ so yes, so does kaneki ] I sleep enough. [ CLEARLY HE DOESN'T ]

Have you tried sleeping more to see if it makes you stop looking like that?

[He's not judging, as he is isn't really a fuss-er, it just seems like the natural next question.]

I have insomnia. [ chronic ] So it's a bit difficult to get my body to sleep more than it needs. [ than it demands. Kaneki's body clearly needs more sleep, but alas, he just can't sleep more than a couple of hours ]

Ah, is that so. [It's a noise of sympathy, though one doesn't get the feeling that Dazai is actually particularly bothered by other people's hardship, though he isn't dismissive, either.] Normally I would prescribe a triple shot of whiskey, but...

That would be very difficult and somewhat gross. [ kaneki would puke ]

I can't even have pills, warm milk with honey, or things like that. [ he is being playful, making it sound like it doesn't really matter ]

[Dazai makes a face, the connection is obvious enough, but not being able to drink but still having to live absolutely sounds like the worst fate imaginable.]

Because you aren't human..?

Exactly. I'm a ghoul, and ghouls have a very restrictive diet.

Oh, what is it?

Humans. [ kaneki supposes their third meeting is the right time to tell Dazai this. He doesn't hide what he is anymore, not after being outed in public several times, but kaneki tries not to say it during first meetings. ]

Ah, yes, I figured it had to be something like that.

[Dazai seems pretty unperturbed, he snaps his fingers, like he just had a brilliant idea.]

What if you ate an extremely drunk human?

I'm not going around eating people to try out what it'd happen.

But drunk people smell really bad. [ moreso than how drunk people usually smell to humans ]

I just meant hypothetically. I wan't volunteering, either.

[Being eaten by a people eater is not his ideal way to go.]

So, how are you staying fed around here?

The government provides imports - registered or not - with what they need to survive. So I'm allowed to get bodies that were donated to science but did not meet the standards. [ De Chima has plenty of that, surprisingly ]

[Look after he's dead you can eat the body that's fine.]

Eeh, that makes an impressive amount of sense for how incompetent a lot of this has been handled. Though, I guess, a lack of interest in keeping imPorts alive and healthy hasn't been something I can complain about. [Even though Dazai isn't interested in any of it.]

They do want us alive and well.

How would you handle it, Dazai-san?

If I somehow ended up working for the government and was responsible for dealing with this kind of mess?

Throw myself off the nearest bridge, obviously.

[he sounds completely sincere and utterly matter of fact about this]

I guess that's a way of dealing with it. [ NOT dealing with it ] But someone would have to eventually.

[he's an expert at not dealing]

And whoever ended up doing that would hopefully not be so interested in having leverage over imPorts while not actually dealing with them that they'd fill them all with nanomachines then kick them out.

Kick us out. Where to?

[swirls a hand over his head to indicate the surrounding area]

As they have, into their country. We have the illusion of freedom but we can't leave, it's fine if we kill ourselves or each other because the option of death has also been taken away.

I don't think they'd want the death of intergalactic visitors happening in their country, nor the idea that your world's timeline could become a mess because of it.

[Sort of smiles and looks off, hand folding under his chin. In the background his feet are folded up in the air and kicking idly like a highschool girl on her bed.]

Well, that is a very forgiving perspective on it, if rather negligent toward this country's actual citizens who don't have life saving technology thrust upon them, and are occasionally dying at the hands of immortal psychopaths in the name of 'being a good host'.

[He redirects his focus back to Kaneki, eyebrow slightly lifted, genuinely curious.]

Are you sympathetic because they're kinder than the government you're used to?

From what I've gathered, they did try the nanites on the natives, but they didn't work. [ it's something Kaneki is still figuring out why. It doesn't help the government is very secretive about the nanites and its fuel, the continuum, which kaneki thinks might have a lot of answers ] But there is a lot of controversy involving imPort deaths in the past. [ anyway - ]

I wouldn't say "sympathetic", but rather I understand their reasoning. They depended on heroes before, they shaped their country when was at its worst - so they look at us the same way. [ kaneki shrugs softly ] I would expect them to kill or arrest every single person that would come through the Porter as invaders, so they did surprise me on that end.
