This world - and a number of the worlds represented by Imports here - doesn't seem to have any native non-human sentient species, which means the humans don't have a frame of reference for it, except maybe in fiction.

I wouldn't worry too much about it - the humans who are worth your time will learn the correct terminology and use it. Anyone who doesn't - isn't worth your time.

I know it's not exactly the same, but I tend to walk around in a human form to spare the thousand questions about what I am. It's annoying and I haven't quite got used to it. I think this tiny planet still surprises me with how far behind it is on species, race and gender issues.

I've never met any non-humans, organic or otherwise, though I've come to understand that that is likely to change here. Where I'm from, there are people whose appearance is somewhat inhuman, and since it's not so unlikely a thing, no one really treats them any differently.

I'm sorry to hear that your experience has been different. That must be very hard for you.

My guess would be lack of experience. People can be scared of what they don't understand. And strangely, my other guess would be a bad experience. If they're from a world where they had bad experiences with non-humans that might cause them to break. Like if someone is hurt by a man, and men trigger bad memories for them. I'm not saying it's right. It just happens. In either case, it's not your fault.

As for the hoops, I'd say just be careful. It's always good to be careful around someone with a broken mind. And hey, not all of us are broken by non-humans.

yeah no kidding if i had a shanix for everyone coming to give me excuses as to why using a different word is too hard for them i'd be able to get the most expensive drink at swerve's

i was for a while, but fortunately 2 others are here now. we were unlucky with some of the less savoury (war criminals) showing up for a time, but they're gone.
i was only alone for a couple of months and it really sucked. i can't imagine how some of the other races here feel if it's been longer than that.
