Before I start, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mitsuru Kirijo and, as the rest of this message will doubtless betray soon enough, I have only recently arrived. I apologise in advance if any of this seems overly blunt or harsh. This isn't like any situation I'm accustomed to so I ask that you forgive any breach of personal or local etiquette and trust that it isn't intentional on my part.

That being said, I do have some questions concerning our job assignments - not the job we were brought here for, I understand that, but the employment we are granted in order that we are able to support ourselves financially. While I don't wish to seem ungrateful, I'm not certain I'm entirely cut out for the role I have been assigned to and, truthfully speaking, I have to question how it is they determine who is given what job. Is it entirely random? Or are we supposed to consider it a challenge to test our adaptability?

And following on from that, how would those who have already done so advise that I go about seeking employment I feel I am more suited to? I am happy to expand on my skillset should the need arise but I feel that is perhaps better suited for private conversation where it holds relevance.

A goddess? I have to admit, that's not quite what I was expecting.

[That's far beyond what she knows, putting aside the part where they fought the actual avatar of Death. At least the Persona aspects had been more...controlled. Which may or may not have been a good thing.]

Well if there was a different world involved, perhaps that alone provided the element of threat needed to summon a Persona. Or perhaps it is the method by which it was granted that leads to the difference. Either way I suppose it doesn't matter here.

Considering there were Shadows everywhere? Yeah; the threat of death was pretty damn high.

But yeah, doesn't seem to matter here. Sure, being in danger makes summoning easier, but we can still do it even without.

[ How many times has he just casually summoned his Persona to do some heavy lifting? To smack a bad guy around? Mitsuru probably doesn't want to know the answer to that. ]

I suppose that's something I'll have to experiment with.

[And perhaps the easier summoning is connected to what else she can apparently do now, not that she's talking about that yet.]

It may not be risk alone, however. Tartarus was just as filled with Shadows and yet we still had to use our Evokers.

Yeeeeeaaaaaah...
Not going to lie, those things KINDA freak me out.
Might be careful where you use them.
People might panic seeing someone put a gun to their head.

I assure you, you don't have to tell me about the importance of discretion.

I didn't think I did.
Just keep in mind there are other Persona users here that might freak out.
And fights are gonna happen, especially with the current state of things.

I assume that was in part what we were brought here for to begin with.

And I intend to seek out other Persona users at my earliest convenience. I would prefer that we understand our differing methods before we find ourselves distracted in the middle of a crisis.

I'm planning on taking a group to a trip to NYC.
We need the break to relax after the last few months.

That would be convenient, provided I can get my other affairs in order beforehand. And provided that wouldn't cause issues with the group.

Shadow Ops? Well I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that Shadows are still an issue if Persona users are still developing their potential so far into the future.

Yeah. There's a group that's more recent that's also dealt with Shadows.

Like 2017 recent, I think.

They're good kids. Really responsible, if a bit weird. You'll probably like them.

Yes, Aragaki did mention them. I believe he currently lives with one of them.

It seems that defeating Nyx drew rather more attention to our world than we might have anticipated, then.

[Even without knowing the full story, she knows a Goddess was involved once and the Shadows are causing trouble almost a decade into her future. She can't help but think there might be a reason for that.]

Well, speaking from my own experience?
It's going to take a lot more than beating up the nearest god to change the hearts of humanity.

That's where Shadows come from, right?
Our own thoughts that we deny ourselves.

That may be true, but something has to cause them to manifest as they do. It takes external stimulation of some kind, be it from a higher being or otherwise.

[Like, say, scientists playing with what they shouldn't.]

Oh.
So I guess punching the nearest god in the face IS the easiest solution...

I suppose that depends on your definition of easiest.

Well, it's better than trying to change all the hearts and minds of humanity at once.

Even if it is just a temporary fix.

Perhaps that's why we are never truly done with containing the threat. Until humanity develops to a place where we are no longer required, someone has to safeguard them from those who would twist their fears and desires to suit their own purposes.

Forgive me for being a pessimist, but I don't see that happening in our lifetimes.

I suppose that's why the Shadow Operatives were necessary to begin with.

And the Investigation Team, and the team that came after them, and just about every team that may come up from this.

It's not gonna stop with just us.

Even so. For as long as I am able, I will continue to do all I can. Such is the role I have inherited.
